The number of out-of-work people collecting unemployment checks fell to a 17-year low in April, underscoring the strongest U.S. labor market in years.

So-called continuing jobless claims fell by 49,000 to 1.98 million, marking just the second time they’ve fallen below 2 million during the current eight-year-old economic expansion. Continuing claims also dipped below the 2 million mark in March.

The unemployment rate is not the effective rate of unemployed in the US. It's a metric put out by the government and they have their own fancy formula that doesn't mean what you think it means. I'm not saying jobs aren't at a new low, I'm just saying the unemployment rate isn't a reliable source of knowledge on that subject.

I don't recall seeing you in the Obama threads making the same argument. Weird.

I didn't post here when Obama was president. And I didn't vote for Obama and wouldn't have defended his fake numbers if that's what you're implying. I remember seeing a few republicans make this argument when Obama was president. And I agreed with them then, just as I do now.

I think you need to put "obama administration" in place of government. It makes it specifically accurate.

The Obama administration didn't invent the unemployment rate or the formula they use. You're funny dude. Just can't let go of the past and constantly trying to demonize someone who doesn't need your help looking bad. Obama has nothing to do with the faulty formula used by all of them.

Okay, I guess I should say I didn't post here nearly as much. I did some, but mostly about the election.

So why you here now? You found nothing to lambast Obama about like you do Trump? Something doesn't smell right here.

Wait.. I thought the economy was going to hell for the past 8 years and we needed Trump to save us from the abyss.

Well I joined the site in 2015 and was primarily on SEC Rant and the Texas A&M sports board. I didn't start going to other boards until Spring of 2016. By then it was all election talk.

At what point did unemployment not include those dropped because they "weren't looking" anymore? ie...jobless

This board is crawling with alters of people who were on here by other names prior to the election.

Aubbie may not be one, but it's obvious in any case.

There are different employment measures that take into account different factors.

They've been calculated the same way for decades.

Wha? I know you are still blaming Bush for everything, but his presidency ended in '09.

What about disability? This is the new unemployment.

It is a lot harder to get someone off disability than unemployment.

There is a lot of fraud in this area.
