I understand the judgement call in this but I still personally would disagree with the commander. It would not be the first time for something like a disagreement in my experience with the military. :) As military personnel, we hold our own views but, we must abide by regulations and orders.

Okay, let's get to the heart of the matter (this is actually more germane to the discussion). The company commander (captain or first lieutenant) is very inexperienced (at best). They defer to the judgement of their battalion commander who defers to JAG. The JAG is probably an AGR (maybe TPU) with many other pressing issues to address (UCMJ, etc). So they choose the path of least resistance, cite the regulation and lose an opportunity to interact with their community.

My only issue with this is the company commander and battalion commander need to take into account they are representatives of the community. Any positive opportunity to interactive should be undertaken (resource dependent). From a resource standpoint, this was as simple as the fuel for a HMMWV series vehicle and the pay for two Soldiers for four hours (one UTA). Positive outcome is potential membership inquiries into the Army National Guard (a community based organization).

My recommendation? Support the event.

But they were not wrong not to.

Having read the article i think the Church has its priorities messed up. As Christians their first allegiance should be the the Church and their fellow Christians on the planet not the United States of America which is a man-made institution that is secular.

I think that church needs to reevaluate their priorities and remember that Jesus did not come to support a state or country or help the Jews overthrow Rome and he did not come to establish a political entity with hyper-patriotism.

Well said. Could not agree more.

Wolfhounds, Is this you?

The Battalion proudly carries thirty Battle Streamers and fourteen unit citations. The motto “Nec Aspera Terrent” means: “NO FEAR ON EARTH.”

Salute.

A sect is, by its own definition, a separatist group to some extent. I can't seem to qualify LGBT... (the fastest-growing acronym in the history of human communication, which lends itself to my argument here, actually) as a "sect."

They are an ideological group. That is included in the original prohibition. This isn't hard to grasp unless you really don't want to. And it's obvious you don't want to.

Absolutely, God first as a Christian. Jesus had one purpose. Salvation.

27th Infantry Regiment

I served in the 1st Battalion (91-92) as the Medical Platoon Leader. We were assigned to the 3rd Brigade of the 25th Infantry Division (Light). Our sister battalion, the 4th, was also in our brigade. Wolfhound45 was my call sign. Will proudly be a Wolfhound to the day I die.

I see that and know it, and it's good of you to cite that, but this part of the issue seems to have been dealt with by now.

I think this is a bad policy on the part of the government. As a Christian and a citizen with a long family military history, this makes me never want my children to volunteer for military service.

I don't mind the military being present at any event as a public relations tool. To me, not being present at this event has the exact opposite effect. That should be clear to anyone.

ETA: "God, Country, Family, Friends, Self" has always been my motto. Country is quickly losing a spot of importance in my life.
