A recently passed bill in Michigan would make it a felony to intimidate someone by using the wrong gender pronouns.

Michigan's state House of Representatives has passed bill HB 4474, a piece of legislation that criminalizes causing someone to feel threatened by words.

Under the new bill, offenders are "guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 5 years, or by a fine of not more than $10,000."

Pretty sure that violates the first amendment.

using the wrong gender pronouns

If a person’s pronouns can change daily—an argument we’ve been forced to hear ad nauseum—how is such legislation enforceable?

Unconstitutional. The representatives that voted to pass should be removed from office. They are openly trying to violate the Constitution

This bill is incredibly stupid, but 1A protects speech against the government, not other people. Otherwise we wouldn’t have libel or slander laws.

The first amendment protects speech from government intrusion (like this bill). Not just speech against the government.

So you are saying the government can ban certain speech by making it a law?
