Facebook parent Meta appears ready to unload up to 544,000 square feet of offices in the Bay Area.
The social media giant, based in Menlo Park, has listed 113,500 square feet at 6900 Dumbarton Circle in Fremont for sublease and plans to part with 430,000 square feet at 181 Fremont Street in San Francisco, the Silicon Valley Business Journal reported.
Meta has hired JLL to market the Fremont office, according to Costar, which first reported the listing.

Meta faces record EU privacy fines

According to filings in Ireland, Meta has set aside €3 billion for EU privacy fines in 2022 and 2023. Its platform Instagram already got slapped with a €405 million fine in September for violating kids' privacy, and Facebook so far has accumulated €282 million in penalties for data breaches as well as a €60 million hit from the French. That leaves well over €2 billion earmarked by the firm for regulatory action.
And don't forget they have already had one round of mass layoffs.

They’re not valuable when everyone now knows their purpose is brainwashing and hiding truth from them.

Funny how this all started happening once Twitter was on the table

He’s gonna have a helluva time adjusting to that 63sf cell

Guess that's what happens when you build a platform on controversy and then ban half the discussion.

Honestly, major layoffs for them might actually improve the company. Get rid of all the useless PR and social justice people and keep your core research and development guys and keep trucking along minus the annoying people.

Yet you can get arrested for a Twitter post.

Zuck us in a room with I.T. asking how they make sure everything is REALLY deleted and cannot be shared once they go under.

This is what happens once you’re finally exposed for being 75% bots

Yea their ad revenue is drying up fast
Ad revenue is drying up everywhere but Facebook seems to be struggling with it more than others. Maybe it's because they were too bloated but I think some of it is because people have stopped using Facebook over censorship.

What’s kind of sad is all this scrutiny really started because the left actually blamed Facebook for Trump winning in 2016 (Russian disenfo and Trumps team doing a good job targeting ads to demographics that didn’t used to vote)
That’s what started the spiral of the media and Capitol Hill scrutinizing, privacy concerns brought to the forefront, etc.
They then pivoted hard left to make up for it but are now disliked by both sides
Then Apple put the final nail in the coffin with their privacy prompt which makes it hard to target ads for iPhone users who opt out of tracking (which is the majority)
But on the flip side, they were massively bloated and hired like crazy during Covid. So there needed to be some contraction and a back to basics

Maybe Elon can by Facebook at a nice discount!

No, this downward spiral started with their fact checking and FB kicking conservatives off, and people like me leaving the platform.

I dont use facebook but the metaverse and more the augmented reality are really fascinating
I think the AR is gonna take off once they have the eyewear
They already have rayban smart glasses
The metaverse will get there.

Exactly, there are dozens of people I know personally, including myself, that just simply won’t use their platform again unless there is an Elon type purchase and purge. I hope they go the way of MySpace.

They are doing this to themselves. For years they have knee-jerk responded to random criticisms about targeting. They almost entirely removed income targeting (now you can target people who live within entire zip codes that are in the top 50% or higher, but nothing else, so it’s kind of useless). They have severely restricted or entirely removed other types. If your ad has anything at all to do with jobs or housing or what could be considered a social issue, you are even more restricted. Not that a free for all was the answer, but between all those restrictions and their totally nonexistent support structure, I completely understand why it’s drying up. Your ad will get rejected for a random reason, or your entire account shut down, and there is no one to help you. You appeal and cross your fingers. Waste your time tinkering with the wording or image or whatever. And you hope next time it passes. They do have support for people who spend $50k or more a month. So very few advertisers get that. If you do figure it out, results are nothing like what they used to be thanks to inundation and an ever-shrinking (and aging) user base, so the money is being seen as a waste by those spending it now too.
Compare this to Google. You run ads? You have support, regardless if your budget. Your ad is rejected? Chat with someone. The targeting is restricted by things like iOS, but their network is so large it’s a blip compared to Facebook.
Then you have more ad targeting options like through connected TV (Hulu etc) or even something like podcasts. Facebook has not adapted in any of the ways that matter, so here they are.
