There has been a lot of media talk about authoritarian tendencies in the Trump administration, but much of the push back from the Left against Trump has actually been because he is "less" authoritarian than his predecessor.

Thought provoking article on NR

paraphrased points from the article

Think about the protests against the Secretary of Education - because they fear she will relinquish federal control of education.

Think about the protests against the EPA administrator - they fear he will be less authoritarian than his predecessor.

Think about the protests against Gorsuch - they fear he will be less intrusive than they desire the courts to be and will oppose efforts at Executive branch overreach (administrative state).

Protests against Sessions - they fear he will be less intrusive in areas of state and local jurisdiction.

He's anti- authoritarian. He's making the state smaller and less coercive. But yes, he's a big blustery alpha- male, and to people who see pajama boy as the epitome of American manhood,!that makes him annauthoritarian. He's the guy who snickered at them in 4th grade when they got caught wearing mommies dress.
