Mayor Sharon Weston Broome has hired a chief administrative officer to replace interim Chief Administrative Officer William Daniel. Troy Bell, who most recently served as acting city manager/deputy city manager of Walla Walla, Washington, will begin working as Baton Rouge’s new COA this week, Broome has announced.

“After an extensive search, I am fully confident in my decision,” Broome says in a statement. “Mr. Bell has an impressive, documented record of public service on federal, state, and local levels, including administration in a number of U.S. cities. I am absolutely assured that he will successfully lead the daily operations of our city and parish.”

This guy will be on his third job in less than 1 year. He was fired on the last day of his probationary period in Walla Walla, Washington, a city of around 31,000 people.

He has no ties to Louisiana and one might say he is getting a promotion after being fired.

to Mayor Broome. She's determined to make John Bel Edwards look like an intelligent man after his Congressional hearing earlier this month.

Eh, this wasn't much of a surprise. She'll continue to surround herself with "blacks first" folks.

I hope he does a good job, but on first blush he doesn't seem to be a big hire for a parish our size.

Qualifications do not matter. Skin color does.

End of story.

The tide is definitely turning in that direction. Ever since the anti-police tilt from city counselor members and the new mayor's stance towards police.

There's some stories out there that this dude might not have gotten a fair shake in his last position.

But to go from a city of 33K to BR? Big jump. Like going from D-II ball to the SEC.

I honestly am not totally sold that this is how you assess how someone is going to do.

William Daniel for example did not have a similar position before becoming CAO IIRC. I believe he had the following jobs before then.

Petroleum engineer
Legislator
Some kind of board on BRCC
Public Works director (BR)
