Mattis threatens massive military response of North Korea strikes

WASHINGTON, Sept 3 (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Sunday threatened a "massive military response" to any attack on the United States or its allies after North Korea conducted its most powerful nuclear test to date.

Speaking outside the White House, Mattis said: "Any threat to the United States or its territories, including Guam or our allies will be met with a massive military response, a response both effective and overwhelming."

Mattis said Washington was not looking for the "total annihilation of a country, namely North Korea. But as I said, we have many options to do so."

He is not throwing this out there lightly and is not bluffing but I think this is to hold them off until we get more diplomatic embargos in place.

See above for his full response, he said both "attack" as well as "threat". That's a pretty big distinction between the two. If I'm reading it right we are going to retaliate if there is an actual strike on S Korea or Japan or if there is a threat to the US..?

Realistically weve already been at that point. Yes they'll go out there and say military strikes are always on the table, but in reality I think both sides know the US isn't going to risk a first strike.

China needs to decide if they want us as Neighbors or not, it is clear what North Korea has decided

Mattis is impressive. Calm and collected.

There's been a lot of talk from Trump and Mattis, meanwhile Lil Kim is shooting missiles every week with no real repercussions. Its about time for us to put up or shut up.
