Loyalty = no leaks from you

I think Trump thought the leaks were coming from Comey or others around Comey. He wanted him to be loyal and not leak.
Second he isolated Comey and gave him information to isolate and determine if that information would be leaked knowing Comey would be the only available source.
Lastly...like Comey said...look at what they've done. Comey has shown and just admitted to leaking information through a friend.

Trump just expects loyalty from anyone close to him. It's the most important quality in a person to him. That's what he appreciates about Pence.

Also, he wrote it in a way that was not classified...which means with the intent of making it public. Which he subsequently did. Seems like a motive to undermine the president. I can see why the President asked for loyalty.
