When it comes to guns connected to crimes, Louisiana supplies more to Texas than the other way around — despite a sevenfold difference in population between the Lone Star and Bayou states, federal data suggests.

And Mississippi funnels more to Louisiana than vice versa, even though it has half the people.

Statistics from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives show that 2,158 firearms seized in 2021 during criminal investigations – dubbed “crime guns” – were originally bought in Louisiana but wound up in other states. And of the 13,823 crime guns taken off the streets in Louisiana, more than 1,800 came from elsewhere.

It's likely that significantly more guns flow between states, but many are never confiscated or, if they are, are not traced, experts say.

Looks like we are being primed for a solution.

What is the proposed solution?

Why post this on the OT and Poli Boards along with no comment? Do you have an opinion? Here's my comment from the OT:

That article is stupid. It literally contradicts itself. If the Crime Guns were all coming into LA from a specific place OR another states Crime Guns were all coming from here then that is a story. But to say guns from here are going all over and guns from all over are coming here says nothing at all.

All the story is saying is that people buy guns and then later sell, trade or lose them and SOME of those guns eventually get used in a crime. Well no shite.

Wow, they are really grasping for straws here. Of all the guns sold in Louisiana in 2021 they recovered 1409 in other states.

According to this site there were 373,524 total guns sold in Louisiana for the year 2021. That would be .00377% of all guns sold in La for 2021.

Safehome.org

I'm thinking that those are guns that were stolen, sold (illegally), and then recovered out of state.

Same kind of articles all over. There is a fervent wish - and a useless effort IMO - to even try.

Americans want their guns and the 2nd Amendment is a LOCK.

The associated evil that so-called "journalists" scrawl for their paymasters will not create an environment that will remove the 2nd Amendment

Maybe…just maybe many of these guns are stolen. Just a hunch.

She is just throwing shite at the wall for clicks.

A few years ago they were peddling some study saying “Louisiana has more homicides because of lax gun laws”. Of course when you drill down on the data you see the outlier of NOLA, BR, and Shreveport pushing those homicide numbers outside the norms. It never occurred to them why those supposed lax gun laws weren’t contributing to increased homicide rates in say St Tammany parish as opposed to Orleans parish.

Louisiana shouldn't have stolen it.

You know, I find any argument regarding who was first Mardi Gras is a tourism pissing contest.

I personally see Mardi Gras about as pagan nonsense as can be - the three weeks of inconvenient limited access to my neighborhood aside.

The premise is weak. Why does anyone "traffic" guns between state with almost identical gun laws?

This article is nothing more than fear-mongering trash.

The subtle foundation is that the existence of firearms is why we have so much crime, as if Cain shot Abel in the head with an AR.

Firearms are a tool. No one looks at a firearm and thinks "I'm going to commit this crime only because this firearm exists". It's like saying obesity is caused by forks.

Instead of focusing on the tool, how about focusing on the proliferation of the mindsets which lead more and more people to commit crimes in the first place.

Good old Nola.com, where folks go when they can't get a job writing for their subdivision newsletter.

Let's be real honest with each other. The real story is that guns from Houston and NOLA, BHM and NOLA, ATL and NOLA, are in a trade. It's not Texas to Louisiana or Georgia to Louisiana, it's Houston and Atlanta to NOLA.

And according to this link: LINK /

There are 1m registered guns in Texas, 1/2m in Florida, 300k in GA, 200k in AL, 150k in TN, and 80k in MS.

How many of these seized guns are legal (IE registered and possessed by the lawful owner)? Probably <5%, maybe non.

This is yet another twisted gun crime statistic to scare people.

Supposedly the "Guns are the leading cause of death for people under 18" stat is heavily twisted by 14-18yo inner city men in gang violence. If you back out that stat, the number goes to a more normal level.
