Maine now has ranked voting, instead of first past the post.

English please
I'm assuming it's votes weighted on preference rather than a plurality/majority

This seems unconstitutional. But I have no idea.

But lets not forget, on election night Maine clearly debunked the theory of Northeast, winds of change, Angus beef, needing their own wall, and Canadian migration

WTF is this? I thought we were discussing legalizing pot

Say this last election you wanted to vote for Johnson but worried that Clinton would win. In the current system you don't vote for who you want for fear of the spoiler effect.
So, now Maine could vote like this:
1. Johnson
2. Stein
3. Vermin Supreme
4. Trump
As each person is mathematically eliminated, your vote goes to your next choice. You can vote for who you want, but your vote doesn't end up being a spoiler in favor of the person you wanted least.

That's actually pretty cool... I think.

I remember this from the 70s. But in those days it was called a 'preference ballot' not a 'ranked ballot.'

Geez, why not just go with the run-off system like La does

No. Your vote transfers to the next person, but is still just one vote.
