Treasury extends potential debt default deadline to June 5

quote:

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Friday issued a new letter to Congress stating the government won't hit the debt ceiling until June 5 -- slightly later than the agency's previous prediction of as soon as June 1.

"Based on the most recent available data, we now estimate that Treasury will have insufficient resources to satisfy the government's obligations if Congress has not raised or suspended the debt limit by June 5," Yellen wrote.

The update buys much-needed time for negotiators to hammer out a deal to raise the debt limit and avoid a disastrous default. The so-called "X-date" when the U.S. will run out of funds to be able to pay all its bills in full and on time has always been fluid, based on daily federal tax revenues and expenditures.

frick them. Don’t do it Rs. They’re wanting them attached to passing higher limit. I’d rather default and let Biden admin figure it out.

Did the VA call you about a potential default? They called my FIL and said there’s a chance he won’t get his medicine if a government shutdown occurs.

Lying sacks of shite.

Tell's me the Republicans are stepping up and saying no. The democrats need a extension because they are unable to get what they want. How do you actually extend something that was a crucial situation to be solved? This is the junk that the MSM pushes in your media.

It's all just another fear manipulation play.

Don't let yourself get sucked into debt default fear.

So you're saying the thrust of your thread ISN'T that something inherently dishonest is going on due to a 4-day delta?

I've said it from day one of this BS: Everyone I distrust is saying the same thing 'we must not default' 'it's catastrophic'. It's time to cut the addict off. Stop the damn spending. Stop it!

I haven’t got one - that I know of - but I assume my benefits would freeze. Biden not cooperating and trying to force this on the Rs will end bad for him. I assume our side will cave though or an EO would be passed to keep govt running. Who knows with our idiot leaders.

There are only two possible reasons for the announcement:

a. Yellen checked the math.
b. Yellen got a memo from the White House.

Women have problems with math.

Are you under the impression that anyone alive ever thought it was June 1st?

The Treasury secretary is a political appointee with zero credibility in her field. Everything she says or does is part of the WH’s negotiation strategy.
