What types of school reform do you think are valid and worthy to explore?

I think finding positive ways to decrease the student:teacher ratio would be a great start. Students with more face time with teachers do better academically.

This method has the most cost to it, though, because it involves hiring more teachers.

Possibly, but I am hoping that more creative ways to accomplish it can be found. Personally, I really don't know what that would/could entail.

I'm bummed the nevada model is stuck in court, simply because it would provide us with actual results to use to make further decisions.

Not a liberal but I think putting more responsibility on the students. It's ultimately up to them to decide if the want to work now and have a good living or if the want to.just get by in school and struggle the rest of their life. You can't make someone want to work.

We all know why there is such an outcry to stop Devos....teachers unions. How many jobs can you retire at 55 and have an awesome pension? She's going to be pushed through and the days of early retirement and unions controlling the schools are going to end. This is similar to the once great military retirement pension.

I think school choice and vouchers will be a great thing, it will require schools to fight for enrollment to secure more money. It may even help certain schools focus more on specific studies. (analytical, literature/art, history, etc)

Most people fighting against Devos are just fish swimming with the school.

Not a liberal but I think the teachers union needs to dismantled, we need to get rid of tenure, and we need a renewed focus on trades for kids who aren't college bound

Trade school track available.

Strict discipline standards, with a required military style reform school for serial violaters.

Stop telling kids that their only option after HS is going to college when we have plenty of other options for careers. Not everyone is cut out for college. Plus get rid of BS minors like gender studies and other garbage majors that the recipient can only get a minimum wage job after graduation.

Adopt all Finnish principles. Use across the board sequestration to free up the budget.

There is a Finnish thread.
They are #1 in math in the world. Up on the top 3 every year.

All the kids are fed and provided free medical. The teachers work loads are reasonable and the teachers have time with the other teachers to work on problems.
