Reminds me of actor Robert Blake who said on TV that the Catholic Church should sell all of their art and statues and stained glass windows and give the money to the poor. He later murdered his girl friend but got off.

The church shouldn't do that but it is a bit rich to hold all that crap and then claim to be broke when they get sued for the systematic cover up and protection of pedophiles.

I have nothing about which to comment regarding the OP but as one of the people on the More Sports Board that was adamant that Harbaugh was never going back to college, I do have to admit that I was wrong on the "never" part and acknowledge that it looks like a distinct possibility.

I love college football but this really is starting to bother me, and its not every state but its most where cfb is big business.

Easy fix. Stop looking at the HC as some overpaid "public servant" rather than what he really is, the CEO of a multi-million dollar business. The bulk of the salary doesn't come from the pockets of taxpayer, but rather from the funds his business generates. They are simply paid the market value for their services.

Most of that money isn't coming from the state.

If he gets Meeeechigan into the CFP, the school will make many times that amount.

This line of thinking is exactly why college football is going to get blown up in the next 25 years.

Some of these football programs are valued at half a billion dollars. If it were truly business-like, the university could probably sell the rights to run the football program for $50m/yr+.

If it were truly just about being a business then the athletes would get paid and they wouldn't even have to pretend to be students.

Already a bunch of SJWs on twitter claiming his 8 mill/year salary could pay the tuition of thousands of black prospective students in Detroit inner city.

Perhaps they'd like to get off their lazy arse, accomplish something of note, and pay for those kids' tuition themselves.

You are worth what the market says you're worth.

Not to mention a lot of the bigger football programs are self sustaining, so it isn't as if money is being diverted from academics to sports. It's actually the other way around.

you could say the same thing about UABs program throwing in the towel. They didnt have the money because everything goes to T-Town and Saban's staff.

Lot's of athletes got screwed and many of them are black.

just stupid

1. Tuition is 13,486, so * million could pay for 593 inner city black students from inner city Detroit.
2. are there thousands of inner city detroit kids that deserve to be there, and can't get a scholarship?
3. How much revenue are these students going to bring in?

Self sustaining, as in, it doesn't depend on the university and academics to thrive?

I'd love to see the self sustaining private business that is LSU football separate itself from the university. not just financially but in branding as well. Let's see how well it survives as the Baton Rouge Thundercats.

When a coach gets paid market value, they get market value for a reason. How about these black inner city students who better themselves athletically and stay off the streets because they have a goal for playing for a great coach? In this zest to get better, some realize their dream and goal, many may not realize their goal however many of those student atheletes might earn scholarships from other universities through their hard work or learn valuable lessons, stay out of trouble, whatever the improvement...a rising tide lifts all boats. That takes a little thought process though and these SJWs are too busy reacting with their emotions to figure the big picture out.
