A disaster for TOPS, a disaster for roads and infrastructure, a disaster for tax reform (i.e., there will be none).

The Gang of No will vote no to any taxes but fail to offer any proposals for spending cuts. They will sabotage the Democrat governor at every turn and then blame him for the failed session.

Edwards will whine to the media about doomsday scenarios before abandoning his goofy tax reform plan, and then blame the R's for the failed session.

Good.

JBE has been nothing but a job/economy killer, that wants to kick the engine of our state economy in oil and gas when its down while taxing the ever loving shite out of our wallets and fricking up the flood recovery contracts as a nice bonus.

I'm not intersted in working with someone like that.

He did follow Jindal. Voted for all of his budgets until he began campaigning for governor

Jindal didn't ruin oil and gas. Nobody in Louisiana did.

The crux of all of our problems is the fricktarded state constitution and the massive protected spending it has.

Until we have a Governor with the balls to demand a rewrite for it, we will be constantly dealing with this.

Do y'all realize that HALF of the state's budget for next year will be Medicaid? It's untouchable.

K-12 education is untouchable.

Money to local governments is untouchable.

Call a constitutional convention and tear that fricking thing up. I'm all in. Meanwhile, I am prepared to vote for some sort of reasonable gas tax, provided they can set up a lockbox in the state treasurer's office.

BTW, y'all need to vote for Julie Stokes for Treasurer. She is a CPA, very conservative, and very smart.

After reading the Advocate yesterday and the story about how weak the Speaker is I wonder if anything will get done. Thats perfectly fine when it comes to the tax "reform" that is really a massive tax INCREASE

Yeah right. They will b$&@h and moan, but when the governor says "jump", they will ask "how high?" In the end we will see:
A. No real cuts except to TOPS
B. No additional infrastructure being built
C. Lots of new taxes
D. Pay raises for employees or COL increase for retirees of some type if government entity
E. The legislature refusing to go through with a line-item veto session despite having enough self-proclaimed "conservative" votes to defeat the governor.
F. Our budget deficit for next year will be just as large if not larger.

But isn't it mostly made up of federal funds?

Jay Dardene was on KPEL this morning doing his damn well best to polish that turd of a tax proposal.

Moon Griffon and Co. have been saying that other states have been moving away from CAT tax, and yet our legislature is persuing it.

Yes, they do need to rewrite the constitution.

When asked about the gas taxes and why only 11 cents actually goes to roads, he seemed not even be familiar with that figure. --- a figure EVERYONE has been talking about for a long time. This is how I know JBE is trying to snow us.

It is, but starting next year, it goes from 100% funding to 95% of what was projected 2 years ago. In two more years, it's only 90%. The cost has already run at least 30% higher than those projections. That means we'll be on the hook for 27% of the costs next year and 31% in 2 more years even if no more people get on medicaid. Soon after that, the federal government may drop their percentage even further! Medicaid expansion was nothing more than selling your car to pay your credit card bill only to turn around and buy another car with your credit card. It was a short-sighted, short-term bandaid with long term repercussions.

Why do they need to propose cuts? Let's just leave the budget at a standstill.

Who cares.

At least we won. Vitter and the rest of the Foster/Jindal establishment cronies will never set foot back in the Governor's Mansion!

I love it every time I hear JBE's name listed as Governor

And they thought we really cared about hookers
