I used to live on the Northshore and considered its proximity to N'awlins positive. It's a great city and we always enjoyed visiting there. Ok, more accurately it was the best and worst of cities.

I have only followed the monuments removal at a distance. IDK the history behind why they were originally erected but this was the first serious effort I can recall to removed them after all these years.

My question concerns Mitch Landrieu's logic. He stated: "These men did not fight for the United States of America, they fought against it." Source

Someone please clarify, but isn't/wasn't New Orleans a sanctuary city in defiance of federal law? So if Mitch is asked, "do you love new Orleans more than the United States," how does he answer?

If this has already been discussed, then NVM.

The US Congress also granted these great men the status of a US veteran, so Mitch if full of bull. Mitch removed the statues of duly recognized American veterans, and West Point graduates, while Governor Honor Code stood by and did nothing.

No. New Orleans is NOT a "sanctuary" city. New Orleans is NOT in violation of Federal Law.

New Orleans actually complies with Federal Law on immigration.

This was all about political expediency for the mayor.

It's a great city

New Orleans was a great city, in every sense of the word, around the turn on the twentieth century. It missed it's destiny due to ineffective politicians and a lackluster educational system.

Today, New Orleans' claim to fame is that it's different from every other American city.

That's what he's playing to but this stunt is nothing more than him trying to pad is Liberal credentials for his next job since he'll be term-limited out next year.

He was set up for a job in the HRC admin. Then...his career died beyond mayor.
