Is an advanced degree required? What about an undergraduate degree, 100 books and thirty years of observation?

I have an advanced degree in statistics.

I'm certain that many students with just an undergraduate degree in statistics know much more than I do.

In other words, I personally discredit his stupid appeal to authority.

This guy is brilliant. Imagine that, a PHD knows more about science than I.

I have a PhD, and I often consult and seek advice from colleagues without one because they are smarter or have more experience.

Degrees are a baseline indicator of competence and "expertise" but surely not the only one.

Bingo. My phd training taught me I do not know everything. A degree does not equal being smarter or more informed.

I hold a masters in Biology and a M.Ed in educational administration. I realized one thing quickly, my degrees both undergrad and grad simply mean that I am trainable. I had the discipline to study, do research and jump through the proper hoops to get awarded my degrees. Someone with more experience despite the level of degree should be listened to, they usually have a better understanding of the subject. I learned just enough in school to be dangerous and get in trouble.

I have an Ed.D.

I know how to interpret data and I can speak intelligent on issues of education, higher education specifically.

Do you think liberals would listen to me when I explain why "free college" is a terrible idea?
