Republican Senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain think President-elect Donald Trump should punish Russia for likely interfering in the 2016 election.

“In a couple weeks, Donald Trump will be the defender of the free world and democracy,” Graham said, during a joint interview with John McCain on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday. “You should let everybody know in America, Republicans and Democrats, that you’re going to make Russia pay a price for trying to interfere.”

Graham is referring to the report released Friday by The Office of the Director of National Intelligence that Russian President Vladimir Putin led efforts to influence the 2016 Presidential election—specifically by discrediting former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, notes Reuters. Trump has repeatedly refuted that Putin was responsible, even before the government agencies declassified the report.

During the interview, McCain said he supports continued investigations into the hacks.

“We need to come to grips with it and get to the bottom of it and overall come up with a strategy in this new form of warfare that can basically harm our economy, harm our elections, harm our national security,” he said, according to Reuters.

The two also said they’re unsure if they will support Trump’s pick for Secretary of State, former Exxon Moibil CEO Rex Tillerson, who has been scrutinized for his ties to Putin. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is holding a meeting Wednesday to discuss his nomination, according to Reuters.

Trump tweeted Saturday that improving relations with the Russia is a “good thing.“

Graham is still mad that TRUMP gave out his phone number and McCain was captured.

These two warmongering psychopaths are the poster-children for why this country needs term limits.

This is no doubt a dream come true for them for Russia to be blamed for these hacks.

Thank God Trump will ignore them.

If only we could punish McShame and Grahamnesty instead. If Trump can figure out a way to neuter those two idiots and cut them out of power he needs to do it.

Yeah I don't think so. Thank God for McCain and Graham and many other sensible Republican congressmen, who will keep us safe from this reckless idiot.

Both are desperately trying to preserve their personal sphere of influence. That is it. For these two, and many Dems, this has little or nothing to do with Russia. It is an attempt to depower Trump. Russia is simply the vehicle never-Trump'ers are using. Both McCain and Graham simply self-interested nitwits.

Self-interested? Maybe. Seems like they know leverage when they see it, though.

The hype that these two assclowns get really shows media bias. It is the same 2 assholes over and over and the media will say something about "bipartisan" concerns and bury that the only bipartisan part is these 2.

If they could, these two lunatics would send every able-bodied American off to war in some third-world hellhole in the name of "protecting national security", which is Washington speak for war profiteering.

I would use the term "lunatic" advisedly.

Really?
Because they never once saw it during the campaign.

Riddle me this: If Americans were given the choice between knowing content of Podesta's emails, knowing the DNC was in cahoots with Clinton against Sanders, knowing CNN & the Clinton team cheated in debates, etc vs being kept in the dark about those things, which do you think Americans would prefer?

If Russian hacking provided that information when no one else would, and McCain-Graham want to severely punish Russia for getting factual information past the lying MSM, how do you think the public will respond?

The stuff about the Clinton campaign playing dirty politics with Sanders? Sucks.

Now, with a straight face, are you telling me the Trump campaign was pure as the driven snow, and never once pulled a political dirty trick? Really?

McCain and Graham have spent their political careers arguing for constant war around the globe. They support military action as a solution to almost every foreign policy issue. Their popularity with the mainstream media and the Democratic establishment shows just how addicted the uniparty is to perpetual war and nation building.

It's still recent so I'll cut you some slack. You're a smart, successful guy. It'll dawn on you soon or later that this election wasn't some singular defining moment in human history. The president-elect won fair and square, but he also won 3M fewer voters to an unpopular, unappealing lazy candidate with a weak record and a string of well-timed leaks dogging her. I have the social intelligence to understand that won't be well-received, but let's take it easy. Two years ago the clowns on this board were talking secession and saying a white guy would never win again.

Those kinds of mercurial swings are not very appropriate for middle-aged men.

With those geopolitical opponents that you need cooperation with you use the carrot and the stick. Not just the stick. McCain and Graham are vestiges of a Neoconservative foreign policy apparatus that is hanging on for dear life. Trump needs to do the right thing and the popular thing, and drive a stake in it. Now is the time for bigger imaginations, not all this status quo small-ball. How about instead of "punishing" Russia we attempt to forge a mutually-beneficial relationship. If that doesn't work, we can always punish them later, and in a far more substantive way than just having a temper tantrum.

No.
I am saying if silicon valley überprogs could have hacked Trump's team or the RNC in response to Wikileaks, they'd have done it in a heartbeat.

The fact both they and Russians had limited success accessing those GOP systems should make you feel good about their ability to protect national secrets vs what would have been the case with HRC's team. Demonstrable competency is part of what a campaign is all about.
