Kelly Ayotte

Curious about the chances of her becoming Trumps pick to replace Kennedy? I have a feeling Trump may feel as though he owes Ayotte for what happened in Senate race in 2016 and the way she has backed him 100% since election including guiding Gorsuch through his Senate confirmation. The logic also makes sense in that the Republicans need to place a woman on the bench eventually and with this pick you get a woman in Kelly Ayotte at 48.
Also the Senate kind of likes the idea of having one of their own on the bench and Kagan was as much a political appointment as there ever was in my lifetime. Also Kagan had never been a judge or argued a case at the SCOTUS until she was appointed Solicitor General. Ayotte has argued in front of the Supreme Court before as NH's AG.
I'm not saying this is a good or bad pick but I have this feeling she will be on the list.

ETA: There is zero talk or articles about Ayotte. I just want to examine the possibility.

Imagine for a second that the Republicans want or feel they need a woman on the court.

Not familiar with her from the perspective of a court nominee but I didn't see her name on Trump's list.

Even though she has a law degree and has served as a state AG, she wouldn't be my pick. She is too involved in politics considering she was a U.S. Senator and has all that special interest lobbying baggage that I wouldn't want a SCOTUS judge bringing to the bench.

Then that eliminates Mike Lee and Ted Cruz by that logic.

As much as I like Ayotte, Trump doesn't owe her shite, and she has served no time on the bench. We need experienced conservative judges.

Damn. For a second, I thought Kennedy announced his retirement.
I've got a few hundred bucks riding on Kennedy on Predictit.
What a let down.

It would take Janet six months to roll out a decision.

Ayotte was a neoconservative in the Senate. She in no way would be a judicial conservative and certainly isn't anywhere near being a constitutional originalist.

Her biggest flaw, even more so than not being as conservative/originalist that one would expect the person that is nominated to be, is that she has never been a judge at any level, much less a federal judge. She simply doesn't have the resume. IMO it would be a terrible decision to nominate someone who has never served as a judge before. Preferably, you want someone who has served at the federal level.

Does trump even like her? She bailed out on him in the fall and she got passed over for cabinet job.
