It's encouraging that the show depicted it as ridiculous, because it is. If it were depicting the noble plight of genderfluid zhe-them, I'd be disappointed.

At the time I watched I wasn't sure if they were making fun of it or trying to normalize it. I mean for a show that has butt sex in every episode then introduces a transgender character, who is ACTUALLY transgender, then has that character correcting Ian on correct "usage", I doubt they would have a scene where they said hey y'all gather round we're going to show how ridiculous you are, that actor would never have gone for that. I think more than likely what they are trying to do is get the audience over the WTF stage and then inject this into it's audience as normalcy

I thought this scene was a joke when I watched the episode.
There is also the genderless guy/girl on Billions now. I guess all shows are required to have one now.
