A federal judge on Tuesday blocked an Obama administration rule to extend mandatory overtime pay to more than 4 million workers from taking effect, imperiling one of the outgoing president's signature achievements for boosting wages.
U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant in Sherman, Texas, agreed with 21 states and a coalition of business groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, that the rule is unlawful and granted their motion for a nationwide injunction. It was to take effect Dec. 1.
The rule would have doubled to $47,500 the maximum salary a worker can earn and still be eligible for mandatory overtime pay.
Obama's been striking out lately with federal judges it seems.

And he appointed this judge. And there's no way the Fifth Circuit sides with the Administration.

And now, the Trump DOJ can refuse to appeal the case which will essentially end the matter.
I'm guessing the Odumbf*ck DOJ will try to get some sort of expedited appeal which will probably be denied.

I would be surprised if my company didn't go ahead and do it anyway.
Lots of wheels already in motion, and we have already met with the people who will be affected.

Are conservatives opposed to overtime pay in general, or just the method in which Obama expanded it?

When I think about all the boring HR conference calls I had to sit through for this...and for nothing.
Yay!
Yay!

Unless Trump addresses it directly I don't see where employers would take the risk at this point. Adjust now then either consider it a bonus if reversed or try to recover it on some long term payment plan.
Not worth the risk over a few thousand.

We already switched some people and also gave raises to some to bring them up.
Now do we take the raises back?

I couldn't see that happening where I am. Talk about an HR issue!! We'll just pass along the cost of increase to the consumer.

Should have been left to the states.

Uh, what employer wants overtime?

That's just the common answer around here, unless it has to do with abortion or voter ID

None, but to think salaried employees aren't abused is being short sided.
I'm not sure this law is the answer though.

Definitely isn't. We have people who regularly work 55 hrs. That's their schedule. Switched them to salary. Hourly rate that we came up with factored in the 15 hours of overtime and was designed to get them to the total
Comp they got as salaried. All that changed is more talk about carefully tracking hours.

The method. This shouldn't have been done with an executive order. Also, it's not a great rule because it forces people to collect OT rather than being able to trade it for paid time off. It's not ideal for workers nor for employers.
