This is my point, you don't think Scarborough would be a better candidate than Santorum?

Each would have their own relatively small niche of support, if they run, but neither would finish in the top 5 total primary vote when the process came to an end. I would not support either one, but understand that each would have some appeal to a limited number of early primary voters. As the primary process plays out and candidates drop out one by one, their supporters would move on to whoever is left standing that reflects most closely their own positions and/or beliefs.

The 2016 Republican nomination is 100% up for grabs now, with no clear leader(s).

I like Joe.

People don't like him because he hosts a morning show on MSNBC. How would anyone on this board know anything about what he says during his show when everyone claims to never watch MSNBC?

Exactly, I watch the show regularly and can say he is a conservative. People don't watch the program and don't realize that sometimes he plays devils advocate to stir conversation. He was on FOX for a while and took Imus's slot in the morning.

” Scarborough argues the GOP must re-embrace the principled pragmatism of Ronald Reagan, who Scarborough says kept his core conservative values while reaching out to independent and Democratic voters to create a new political majority.

I don't know what sort of dope Joe was smoking in the 80s but Reagan didn't "reach out" to Dems. They hated and mocked him from the get go.

Now he did have a log of support from everyday people who had been Dems. But it was not him reaching out to them but rather it was them realizing after Carter that the Dems were fricking nuts.

I'm surprised that Scarborough drew such a large crowd considering the fact that according folks here, nobody watches MSNBC,

Typically socially conservative voters tend to be VERY fiscally conservative

George W Bush, Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee aren't fiscally conservative, and there as socially conservative as they come.

Did you know that Reagan used to invite Tip O'Neill over to the White House for drinks so that the two of them could reach a compromise?

Yep, and the quickest way to see a third party that will kill Republicans chances for the next 50 years is to continue the "we need to stay away from social issues" nonsense. I'd venture to say half of the republican base are Republican BECAUSE of the social issues.

Truth!

And the more unstable that the World and our citizenry becomes...the more they will run to "their guns and their religion". Hell, if the Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Email, etc.) were to go down, and the faux-security of personal relationships with it...and the relative psychological loneliness of what lies right under that comforting veneer...there would be a meltdown. And the Churches would be full within a week...just like on 9-11.

Joe was one of my favorites back when; I used to watch 'Morning Joe' regularly...until Obama won the second time. Then I realized I could no longer support what had become a propaganda/enabler Network...so I took them off the channel list.

I would consider reading the meat of Joe's book; however...words...are cheap. Joe has shown his colors. He can't be trusted even if he won; the Media glare (power) would corrupt him, and he'd be a Progressive bitch before the first full moon.

It won't be politicians and talk that changes this place...it'll be calamitous events. Which will offer grand vision and opportunity.
