Jehovah's Witnesses have been banned in Russia.

This is a human rights and freedom of religion issue that will be making it's way across the planet very soon. Expect to see more governments banning religion with all the issues going on with Islam etc. Furthermore, the Russian Orthodox church, which Putin is a member of, was the main culprit in this case. Laugh, make jokes, or roll your eyes all you want, but when this hits your doorstep you will not be laughing then.

I don't support the banning, but Jehovah's witnesses are bizarre individuals. Can't even celebrate birthdays or get blood transfusions.

Because Islam has a deeper history in Central Russia than JW do? Russia has more Muslims than the whole of Europe, yet somehow they are going to be the ones leading the charge against Islam.

Jehovah's Witnesses have faced problems almost everywhere they've been. Many were imprisoned during WWI for opposing the war. Their refusal to submit to any worldly authorities puts them in opposition to statists who view the government as the supreme authority, like refusing to pledge allegiance. They have been at the forefront of many Supreme Court decisions involving free speech and the free exercise of religion.
