BREAKING: Louisiana Gov.-elect @JeffLandry says he will call Special Session as soon as inaugurated (Jan. 8) to address Friday's 5th Circuit ruling giving Legislature until Jan. 15, 2024 to drawn new congressional map with second Black district #lagov #lalege #Congress

For clarification,
@JeffLandry
didn't give a specific date, but he can't call Special Session until after he's governor and the deadline will be tight - even if extended to Feb. #lagov #lalege #Congress

Black district?
I suppose he sees the writing on the wall and would rather be in charge of what the map looks like instead of getting a court drawn map. Given what ever map they may draw could still be struck down in court. They could make a map similar to what Alabama tried to do (not in compliance) to get things once again tied up in the courts to delay a new map being installed for the '24 election.
Just my guess.

All gerrymandering needs to stop. All districts should consist of neighboring parishes with an attempt at keeping the population of each district as close as possible.

Congrats on electing another bitch Louisiana

A second black majority district will require even more gerrymandering than is already required to make just one black-majority district in Louisiana.
Population numbers, with a preference for existing administrative boundaries, should be the ONLY factor. Software should be doing the districting.

Creating a district based on race sounds illegal. Race should not be a determining factor in anything.

I would think Sloth would try to call one now, unless he thinks the legislature wouldn't go along with him.

They should draw the most ludicrous district (and should pull some of current NO district) to force the issue.

If anyone would like to file suit in regards to this, i would be in favor of said lawsuit.

Mike Johnson to Jeff
Garrett was part of the McCarthy coalition. He kept us in chaos for three weeks so McCarthy could try to back door slide bac into SOTH. We out smarted them so FT.

Why is it that just blacks get a distinct? What about the Asians? Do they not deserve representation? The American Indians could probably benefit from a district of their own. The gerrymandering that is supposed to be a fix for racism is racist at it’s very core.

That’s what the judge’s ruling means. The judge is saying, correctly, that Republicans drew maps with race in mind to stick as many black voters as possible in some districts so that they can elect fewer Democrats. And that’s exactly what happened.
That, and the opposite of that, are what Republicans and Democrats have been doing for years.

30% of districts for 12% of population. I would tell the courts to pound sand

The issue is it's not that simple.
Black voter participation is lower than white voter participation, so you have to create some REALLY black districts to ensure not only Democrat winners, but black Democrat winners.
I honestly do not know how they're going to draw these maps, given the above. They may have to try to stretch one out along i110 from BR to Lafayette and have a BR/LAF one and a Nola one. That or maybe an L from Lafayette to LC up to Shreveport.

Black people are a bit more than 12% of the Louisiana population, sir.
