JBE, Medicaid, Budget

Heard JBE give a speech today.
In it, he said expanding Medicaid, because of the differences in match rates, saved Louisiana 200 million dollars in the 2016-2017 state budget, and it will save Louisiana 300 million dollars in the 2017-2018. He then repeated that.

And how much will Louisiana pay for the expansion in the next 3 years?

I think he means y'all got $200 million and $300 million from the Washington printing press (our federal government), therefore the state budget did not have to find increased funds to make the jump. The feds gave it to them.
California gets $20 billion/yr in federal aid just with the jump to 90 percent federal govt share of Medicaid:

Interesting enough... he didn't mention that
But politicans only care about today. if true... he shaved 500 million in spending in two years. yes, it will bite us after that... but that's to be dealt with later, right?

Oh, the money definetly came from the feds. But that's the perversion of expanded medicaid. With the way the feds paid for it up front, it makes fiscal sense to accept it. Now, the problem will be when the fed money slows down.

JBE is full of shite.
Nothing more can be really said than that.

Actually, here, he is correct. I've looked at the numbers myself.
But, the thing is, as said above, he's getting the money today, but committing us to a whole big spending later on.

There was actually a time when taking federal grants was considered trading your soul (which it ended up to be). Municipal governments and school districts especially. I recall the hubbub in my hometown about taking federal money to build a new city hall in the late 70s.

Duh, that's what I meant. I've always made that point about medicaid expansion re: JBE. That free money from the feds is only temporary and this broke and poor as shite state will be on the hook for it. And we cannot afford it.
We have to get rid of it and then pay the feds back this money.
