LABI and the auto insurance industry have run a great PR campaign for years. I can't tell you the amount of calls I get that start with "I never thought I'd be calling a lawyer over something like this but ...".

The oil belongs to the owners of the mineral rights. The oil companies purchase the mineral rights and drill.
Let's don't make things complicated, it's really simple.

Not sure how you link a meeting. Not oil related, either. Industry related and not my place to say who the companies are.

I'll even give you legacy lawsuits and the recent coastal suits

To be fair, those are two pretty damn big reasons why companies would not want to stay here. I would argue that a third is the absolute shellacking BP took in settling with private plaintiffs.

was somewhat rectified by the Legislature in 2012 I believe

I'll give you this one as it is in its infancy and we don't know how it will eventually play out

You mean a settlement program they voluntarily entered into in order to avoid the costs of litigating each individual claim?

Yeah I would characterize it more as a settlement program that BP was more or less forced into by the same Judge that would later be ruling on the extent of their liability under the CWA.

Didn't Mike Foster, creator of Piyush Bombay Bobby, get about $15 million from these legacy lawsuits? Wasn't Mike the big anti-trial lawyer governor? Shouldn't Jindal have fought Mike getting this $? And I could be wrong on this but seems some years ago this occurred.

Anyone who thinks Legacy lawsuits or coastal erosion suits are a determinative factor of whether an O&G company decides to enter (or remain in) a given state is a moron.

These costs are an after thought to the economics of the plays.

Also whether Macondo happened off of LA or MS or AL, or TX it wouldn't have mattered. BP was going to get fricked HARD.

Where are they going to go? Venezuela, West Africa, the Arctic (thx Obama). The United States is a safe, stable place to do business with a predictable judicial system. You make it seem like oil companies would rather be attacked by terrorists in Nigeria than adhere to legal/regulatory requirements in Louisiana.

It's an easy sell to the anti lawyer masses who have absolutely zero clue about the law or lawsuits in general.

Yeah, a system where oil companies can apparently be sued for billions of dollars for coastal erosion when plaintiffs can't even point to a law that was violated or a duty that was breached. That system just screams predictability.

Yet I see no major companies exiting America. Weird.
