I have been hearing from my leftwing activist friends that the nation will see protests on Jan. 20, 2017 and the weekend as well. Washington DC will see a massive counter protest and parade as will cities all across the country.

We knew that too. A lot of progressives are still too livid about losing the election to function anymore. It's natural for them to want to cry, melt, and protest the peaceful transfer of power.
As far as optics go about where the Democratic party is going....it's not only expected but encouraged.
