I think CNN earns criticism because 1) the other MSM networks had the same info for months and didn't run the story, and 2) CNN knew good and well that calling attention to the report itself would increase the traffic to Buzzfeed - IOW, CNN planned to let Buzzfeed do the dirty work.
And no, CNN didn't release information that other networks had for months. CNN released a report that Trump and Obama had recently been briefed by the IC on this report. They then described in broad terms what the report alleged.
There's very little to criticize CNN for, and it certainly can't be described as "fake news." Because Trump was briefed on this. Clapper confirmed that.

MANY people have had this widely disseminated report produced by someone paid to dig up dirt on TRUMP for months. And CNN just got around to reporting on it....... For what purposes?

Which other reputable news source reported it as they did? Buzzfeed, that is who. CNN is on the level of BUZZFEED.
Yeah, there is plenty to criticize CNN about, and plenty to criticize you about too.

Which isn't true, they buried a synopsis in the appendices about some horseshite that's been floating around that no one believes for the sole purpose of leaking to the press that they did so.
Then CNN, while knowing that this is all based on some horseshite that no one believes, ran a breaking news segment stating that the ic briefed him on this horsehit without saying they know it's horse shite (which they do). This gives the appearance that the horse shite might not be horse shite.
Let's say buzzfeed doesn't gawker themselves and release the horse shite, people still read an article on CNN that insinuates , by trading on their own and the ic's rapidly evaporating credibility, trump may be leveraged by the Russians.
It's fake news all the way around, and to say otherwise is asinine.

NBC had the story, and said their sources refuted CNN's claim that Trump was briefed on the allegations (he, obviously, has since been briefed). With the same info, none of the other MSM networks felt comfortable running what CNN ran.
Apparently every person in DC had seen the allegations, and nobody (including Buzzfeed) had been able to validate any of it. So, Buzzfeed runs the actual dossier of allegations one hour after CNN tells the public that allegations exist. Maybe it's coincidence, but what did Tapper and CNN think they were going to accomplish? "Some rumors are flying that DJT is compromised by Russia, and the IC talked to him and Obama about it, but we won't give you any details because they can't be verified". WTH kind of story is that? Were they so stupid as to not understand that cracking the lid would open the box completely....or were they counting on it?
