After the press conference he defends CNN releasing the synopsis of the dossier and condemns BuzzFeed.

What CNN did is WORSE that what BuzzFeed did. At least with BuzzFeed we have some ability to fact check the allegations. CNN's transparent purpose was to obfuscate crazy conspiracy theories with somewhat coherent IC findings

Buzzfeed is about to feel what it's like to be outrun by a higher ranking member in the food chain.

They didnt release the dossier. They simply said he was briefed on it.

They released a synopsis that appeared more credible than that bullshite dossier. They knew what would happen if they released the entire dossier so they hid behind the credibility of the synopsis

Can you link to that? Because their own story says, verbatim:

At this point, CNN is not reporting on details of the memos.

A) I disagree it blew up in Tapper's face. I think Tapper's standing is fine. I'm sure he doesn't like being conflated with BuzzFeed, but whatever, comes with the job.

B) Extremely careful on what? Retribution from the WH?

On what and how he reports. He knows his credibility took a huge hit. His sources are going to be standoffish and he'll have to double and triple check them before running anything.

I highly doubt Tapper is doing a ton of investigative journalism anyway, but regardless, I think you're viewing this thing through the prism of about 20% of the country who are diehard Trump supporters.

In other words, I don't think Tapper has much to worry about. I think it sucks he's going to be at CNN, which may go to war with Trump and which puts him in a shitty position to do his work, but I don't think that's what you're referring to.

Really I'm speaking in generalities regarding all reporters. Trump has abused them for months now. CNN was literally just pissed on at a press conference. When was the last time a President straight up told a major news network to go frick themselves on national television. And what's more, he was right and everyone, including themselves, knows it.

Yeah, perhaps.

But, we're past the campaign now. Trump won, he'll take office. So if CNN battles it out with Trump, and creates sensational headlines and clicks, is it really going to hurt CNN? Don't we pretty much accuse MSM of being click bait anyway?

Your premise rests on the majority of the media-consuming public being on your/Trump's side and being disgusted with CNN enough to dry up their business (I think anyway). I'm just not sure that's the case. I can just as easily see CNN benefit (in clicks and views) from a prolonged, dramatic fight with Trump.

So who wins then? Trump's already in office. CNN is in clickbait heaven. My guess is that people like me, who would prefer to be able to sort through the bullshite of modern journalism and pull out good reporting about our government, will be the losers.

Yep, CNN could point to BuzzFeed and say "they said it, not us".. It was a bitch move that ultimately is going to backfire in a big way for them all while taking down BuzzFeed.
