Bribery and prostitution. In my opinion it's treasonous to put special interests above the good of the country and above the good of the people.

I don't particularly like Trump but it's fricking sad that people are worried about what happened in the Don Jr. meeting while actual treasonous bribery takes place in the open every day on capitol hill.

We will never move forward as a nation as long as legislation is sold to the highest bidder.

frick these pigs.

This is why Trump didn't want to take anyone money for running. That way he didn't owe anyone anything. That's like with the healthcare industry. They put out way to much money to get what they want instead of the people of this country. The ones in congress are supposed to work for the American people, not the ones giving them the biggest incentives.

No rational American enjoys seeing how openly our government is so visibly for sale. Almost all people see the same things, regardless of political bent. There are so many "easy fixes" our government could make but never do because of lobbying and special interest influencing campaigns and elections.

You know who has no vested interest in seeing that change? Massive corporations that can buy favorable legislation.

You know what some of those massive corporations own? Media networks that promote divisions to help maintain the status quo.

I get the sense that 80% of this country is about to agree with each other long enough to start truly pressuring the status quo.

Isn't it legal though? If it is legal... than where the complaint?

An appeal to legality/authority is fallacious, but I suspect you aren't in agreement with the policy.

Its almost like... we shouldn't trust them with anything important to our daily lives. Or at least as little as possible.

Why would anyone want to become more dependent on people openly flaunting their power against the citizenry they are supposedly representing?

Leftists love to tell us that "big corporations" run government--then tell us that we should trust government to provide our healthcare. Idiots.

Damn right!

Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative. I think we can all agree that lobbying is it of control, and is hurting it country more than almost anything else.

The only solution I can think of, is to make ex congressmen wait 10+ years after leaving office, before they can become lobbyists. It's just a revolving door, that's turning it country into an oligarchy.

We think that other side is the enemy. But I'm not anyone's enemy here, even if we have different opinions on issues. We could drink beer and have a damn good time. We have much more in common than the top 1% that's running our country behind closed doors while profiting off of it.

Define special interests.

Then, define "the good of the people"

Then. You'll be done with the thread

Hmm. I wonder why that is.

Could it be because everyone loves special interest money, just not their opponent's?

The "We The People" amendment is the only thing that will fix this.

We The People Amendment Web Page

quote:

June 9, 2017
Truthout
Late last month, Nevada became the 19th state to call for Congress to overturn the Supreme Court's Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision. This would be accomplished through a constitutional amendment process. Since the 2010 ruling, its results have been overwhelmingly evident: The decision has substantially increased the influence of corporations on elections.

As I've said before:

Make every representative wear Nascar jackets with logos of their sponsors. The more they received, the bigger the logo. And you are forced to wear the jacket for every public appearance for your entire tenure ad a Rep.

At least that way, when people elect these fricking idiots and they go on an rant about something you can see who paid for that rant.

It would also open alot of eyes when you see republican and democratic reps wearing the exact same patches all over capital hill.

Lobbying is not the problem. The problem is not someone who offers a bribe...the problem is with the one who accepts the bribe.

Are we really going to go through this thread acting as if the premise is real?

One man's "special interests" is another man's "fighting for the people".

This is a bullshite leftist drive masquerading as "We the People" ala the Tea Party.

The problem is not lobbying, the problem is with the politicians that are swayed by the money. Its them that need to go not Citizens United. You can't legislate morality.
