It is official . The term “ liberal” is no longer a pejorative.

The term liberal , as commonly used in late- 20th Century American society is no longer a pejorative. You rarely even hear it anymore. Conservatives openly talk about missing normal, Old school liberals . This new uber virulent disease that has snatched their bodies and turned them into little Stalinists that call themselves “ Progressive “ hasn’t left many liberals standing. You can’t even use the term without somebody correcting you and explaining the 18th Century Lockean roots of the term . Which never used to happen 10-15 years ago when it meant something completely different.
RIP old- fashioned 20th Century , labor union, working man, Pro- American “ Liberalism”. You have been moved FORWARD and replaced by a new generation of anti- American hard Leftists. It was fun while it lasted.

I've been saying this for several years.
Democrats barely pay lip services to Liberals anymore. Democrats are progressives but call themselves liberal. And I've never met a progressive that wasn't a totalitarian at heart.
Most real liberals reluctantly voted for Trump. They actually support free speech, right to own guns, freedom of religion, etc. Trump is no conservative either.

Let's not get carried away. The old liberals wanted to change America. They didn't necessarily love America. These progressives want to destroy America. The ole libs were better, though, and they would debate you on ideology. These progressives are just stupid and emotional. They want a safe space and echo chambers. They need counseling if they encounter a conservative. Damn pathetic.

This is all true. A lot of modern progressives call themselves liberals. A lot of Trump supporters don't consider themselves liberal. They are both wrong.
The Democratic Party is no more liberal than the Republican Party is conservative. The Democratic party is currently run by progressives, while republicans are currently lead by what can only be described as a pragmatist with populist rhetoric.
Those people at UC Berkeley that protest any event or person that showcases a world view different from their own are NOT liberal. Neither are people that demand special treatment because of their race or socioeconomic status. Real liberals value free speech and equality - which are clearly becoming more valued in the republican party today than in the Democratic party.

Democrats made a huge mistake by stomping out the liberal in the last election. They allowed populism to grow in the opposing party.
Democrats have to either adopt a real platform or continue identity politics. Identity politics are incredibly destructive to the country, but they may be able to get more miles out of it. Hate, fear, and jealousy never goes out of style.

Some would call that a nationalist. His business background and no real loyalty to any particular party's core platform allows him to be uniquely pragmatic - more so than any traditional Democrat or Republican capable of reaching the White House could.
That should be a unique opportunity to achieve some bipartisan goals in Washington. Unfortunately establishment politicians are not interested in letting an outsider make an arse of them.

Heard a great term the other day: "evangelistic leftists" That's what they've morphed into.
I can disagree with a liberal and still be friends with them. Liberal causes in the past have brought about undoubtedly positive change.
These people today ain't liberals. Not when the reaction to you being a conservative/libertarian is immediately that you support genocide or something. Leftists demand that you agree with them, or else.

I've called them the same thing all my life... Communists. Even Rush is coming around. He's avoided the 'C' word for his entire career. But this year he's called them Communists at least 5 times.

I call them Fundamentalist Progressives. Although that might be a disservice to those religious people who handle snakes and speak in tongues. In every sense it is now a rigid pseudo religious Orthodoxy that discourages any informed dissent from within.
