UNRWA condemns using the schools for weapons storage, yet them turn them over the "local" police (Hamas).

Well why don't you sign up and get you some
Of course they get hurt in the total war approach but when more civilians are dying than actual bad guys its an issue.
If you look at this conflict from just a military prospective only about 30% max of the roughly 1800 being reported of the causalities in Gaza are Hamas militants while Israel has lost around 60 men and the number is climbing. Hamas despite Israel vast military advantage is giving them every bit of a fight out there.

Only because Israel is fighting with at least some ROEs to try to protect civilians. They could steam roll through that place in days if they didn't care about civilian casualties.

Urban combat, the home team can always do damage.

You can't be serious, gaza is about twice the size of DC and has 2 million people in it.

Serious question. Does Hamas only target military installations with their rockets? When they emerge from their tunnels do they only attack troops and or military targets?
Posted on 7/30/14 at 2:45 pm to StraightCashHomey21
Actually that was my point.
There are so many civilian casualties because there isn't a designated battlefield. Hamas fires rockets from civilian homes, hospitals, schools, mosques, etc., and then people are shocked that so many civilians are killed by the return fire.

I agree. Back in WW2 we did whatever it took to beat the enemy into submission and that included fire bombing entire German cities. Not to mention the nukes dropped in Japan.

Read "lone survivor" and it goes into detail about how terrorists and other enemies use our liberal humanitarian rules against us. They put civilians in the way and when one gets killed they run to the American liberal media .
If you read Luttrell's book titled, "Service", he talks about the differences in strategy regarding situations like he encountered in the Hindu Kush as opposed to Ramadi (urban warfare) where great caution was used to prevent innocent civilian casualties, and for good reason. Gaza is a lot like what the U.S. forces faced in Ramadi in many ways. FWIW...I may be wrong but I believe the IDF is making some critical strategic mistakes in the manner in which they are handling their assault on Gaza. They're making some of the same mistakes they made in Lebanon.
I do believe the IDF will prevail but perhaps at a much higher cost in regard to long term IDF casualties than previously expected. Anyway, I guess we'll see. Just my opinion.
Both are very interesting books.

That's a much better strategy. Destroying the infrastructure and mounting civilian casualties isn't going to make Hamas surrender. Hamas is literally dug in.

But the difference is that the people of Fallujah had all of Iraq to evacuate to, while Gazans have no where to go, since all their borders are sealed off and the sea is blockaded.

Where do they evacuate to? They are under Ariel, naval, and land blockade.
Most Palestinians are not Hamas and Islamic jihad which were created in response to occupation and ethnic cleansing

Israel and its supporters don't care about the loss of any innocent Palestinian life.

Other sections of Gaza. Cordon off the area, no weapons in or out, all that want to leave may leave. IDF then goes in and clears the area and destroying all weapons caches and fighting positions, then reopens the area. They could also relocate them to UN monitored refugee shelters in Israel during the operation. Clear Gaza section by section.
