Actually it is to protect their government handouts. Once you go all out socialists you cannot afford to have people pouring in to take advantage of it.

Which is a huge issue in the UK. Eastern Europeans flocking here then applying for benefits.

According to Condi Rice, Yes.
I would put more credibility in her statement than a board member.

I am baffled by the Left's open border policy. The tide will turn when they truly figure out we cannot afford to pay for all this and the welfare gets spread thinner. When the checks get thinner people will shut off our borders.

Off topic but an open border policy with amnesty for illegals that results in voting rights basically nullifies having citizenship in the first place in the US. It makes it worthless.

The tide is turning here on the EU open borders. People keep saying its the Muslims flocking here but it isn't. Its white europeans.

The Arab, SW Asia and sub continent immigration was years ago. Along with the African and Caribbean one.

Yes...the only real rival to that claim is Brazil.

?

Economist begs to differ
quote:

After a match against a youth football club in Almere in early December, several teenaged players from a visiting Osdorp team pummelled and brutally kicked a volunteer linesman after an unexplained dispute. The linesman, the father of an Almere player, died the next day. He was white. His young assailants were ethnic Moroccans. The incident has touched off a month-long resurgence of religious and racial tensions that have preoccupied Dutch politics for over a decade. And it has resurrected the fortunes of Geert Wilders, a populist right-wing politician who best exploits those tensions.

quote:

The Dutch election in September led to a centrist coalition government. Mr Wilders’s Freedom Party took just 10% of the vote. But while ethnic politics may have quieted temporarily, the roots of the conflicts are as strong as ever. A report released in mid-December by the Netherlands Institute for Social Research found that social contact between white native Dutch and the main immigrant groups (Moroccan, Turkish, Antillean and Surinamese) has actually shrunk over the past 17 years. Half a century after the first Turkish and Moroccan guest workers arrived in the Netherlands, only 28% of ethnic Turks and 37% of ethnic Moroccans identify themselves strongly as Dutch. And while their Dutch language skills have improved, immigrant groups felt less accepted in Dutch society in 2011 than they had in 2002.

quote:

The authors pin much of the blame on “the image native Dutch have of Muslim groups”, which seems only to have worsened in recent years. But Dutch conservatives say immigrants themselves are to blame for their image. Crime rates among young Moroccan men are triple those of white Dutch youths.

In the aftermath of the football clash, ethnic politics leapt to the fore again. The national football association cancelled every amateur game in the country the next weekend, and with Mark Rutte, the Liberal prime minister, called for measures to reduce violence in sports. Mr Wilders attacked this as political correctness. “We don’t have a sports-violence problem, we have a Moroccan problem.” He called for the alleged offenders, all aged between 14 and 17, to be stripped of their Dutch citizenship and sent “back” to Morocco.

Article mentions a few other incidents.

I don't know how Brazil is with racism... but they seem to have a pretty ethnically diverse population.

Huh. Now that is interesting. I don't know that much about Brazilian politics, but this actually strikes me as a pretty good answer. They have a pretty good mix of cultures there.

Well that is like saying Montana is really friendly to minorities because not much happens. If you don't have much diversity and nothings happens, that isn't proof of anything.

And if you don't have much diversity AND racial incidents happen; that means you aren't really as minority friendly as you think.

I think of someplace like New York (particularly nowadays). Sure plenty of racial incidents, but given both the number of people AND the incredible diversity it seems like a pretty minority friendly place to me.

How about South Africa? Seeing as how the minorities rule the country.

Places like Germany, Belgium and Holland are very diverse. Especially in the big cities.

You have to remember lots of people who are black in Holland move their from former colonies.

They're a diverse country and there has been a lot of miscegenation. They still have class issues like the US and the upper class tends to be lily white while the lower classes are dominated by the darker skinned folk.
