Is there a single Democrat Rep that would work as Speaker?

The GOP would always be able to remove the Speaker if he went off the reservation too far.

Hakeem Jeffries seems to be the Democrat preference for Speaker. His name and district don't endear him to the rank and file of the GOP, but he at least has some record of bipartisanship.

The most conservative Dem in the House ( by at least one measure) is Jared Golden. He comes from a district in Maine that leans +11 R.

Clearly, Dems won't vote for a Rep, and Reps can't get united behind one name.

I'm not asking if it's what YOU would want. I'm asking if you think it's possible. Again, anybody in the chair could always be removed again, a far easier point of agreement, it seems.

ETA: Downvote away.

No.

They’re ALL the same. Never trust a democrat nowadays. Before 2005, sure. Not now.

Why the hell would the republicans do something so stupid?

How do you think the rank and file Republican voters would react to the message of “GOP controlling the house doesn’t matter because we will just let the democrats run things anyway”?

How about the former Governor of Kentucky? Steve Beshear?

Or the former Governor of Tennessee - Phil Bredesen?

On what planet? Why would Dems have to abide by Rep caucus rules?

The day that one, just one, of the Democrats in the House stands up and utters a single syllable that rejects wokism, BLM hustlers, our porous southern border, the Squad, packing the Supreme Court, the decline in church attendance, the radical alphabet people, weakening of our military, and the state of education in this country, is the day you’ll find one Democrat that would work as Speaker. But, you won’t…ever. The Democrat Party is uniformly left-wing, progressive now and votes in lockstep.

The fact that this thought even entered your mind is why republicans can't get this done.

This thought process should NEVER be an option when leftists are goose-stepping in synchronous movement for the last 30 years.

The only Dem in Congress I would have accepted as speaker would be Jim Traficant of Ohio.

Trump should do it
This would guarantee a work release upon his multiple convictions
He can sit in the back and watch TV like he did at the White House

Did anyone catch what she said during the vote for Speaker today? While I did not listen to the entire proceeding from start to finish, all other members I heard cast their vote by giving the name of the person they were voting for and nothing else. However, Waters went off on something that was hard to understand and she was roundly booed and heckled. What did she say or try to say?

She started slandering Jordan calling him an insurrectionist. She got booed and someone said “what did the communist say?”
