Is the military industrial complex a form of white collar entitlement?

Thoughts? We could have at least frozen the current defense budget for a couple of years and given some time for the DOD to come up with a list of wasteful programs that they could cut. Increased spending should have come after they proved that they can indeed cut the fat and focus spending on the best ROI programs.

The military industrial complex is made stronger by the strangulation of federal hiring. Institutional knowledge in defense programs shifts ever more to the contractors due to fewer and fewer feds and military rotating out every 3 or so years

The military industrial complex is the biggest boogeyman out there. It only exists because of our foreign policy. In fact, it is impossible for it not to exist with our current foreign policy. If you want to maintain the status quo then buckle up and quit bitching about defense spending because this is what it costs. If you have a problem with how much it costs then start complaining about our foreign policy. This isn't a partisan issue because the foreign policy of the last 7 or 8 presidents has been virtually identical. The democrats don't actually cut spending anymore than republicans actually raise it. They may fluctuate a few billion here and there to placate their ignorant voters but there is never any real change. Democrats love spending money on the military every bit as much at Republicans do. If you think otherwise you are a fool. If you think the MIC is anything more than an unavoidable symptom of maintaining the status quo you are a fool.

There is no factory in Iowa making three-piece suits for the State Department.
Think about it.
Think about it.

I dont think its a partisan issue. However i think the Republicans war on federal service is influenced by defense industry lobbying.

You do know a 1/4 of the $560 billion in the budget is for salaries and benefits including retirees.Do you want to go after that?
You REALLY want to save money on almost ALL government procurement including DOD?Do away with 8A contracting.
It will save BILLIONS.I deal with federal contracts occasionally and it drives up costs by a minimum 10% on every contract I've been involved with.My last was over $2.3 million.
8A's are a complete scam and the ones I've dealt with don't even employ the people they are designed to help.

If the Democrats cut the defense budget they will spend it on social entitlements.
If the Republicans cut social entitlements they will spend it on defense.
Bottom line, Congress will spend the money regardless.
No more direct taxation. Problem solved.

No, it's a white-collar welfare / jobs program.
Some defense companies have offices in every congressional district, so that any cut in the budget will directly effect constituents and potentially cost someone a congressional seat.
When you learn that, it's hard not to see defense spending as a sham.

No. If they were an entitlement the liberals would have no problem giving them the bump.

It becomes one when the President says we need to cut services to the poor and elderly in order to prop up the already bloated MIC for purely crony capitalist purposes.

I doubt it, but I do have my suspicions about the "Green Energy" and Environmental Industrial complex. They have become overbearing and very oppressive while only lining the pockets of the elite at the taxpayers expense.

So how did these guys survive between 2011 and 2015 when defense spending was being cut by ahout 15% ?You DO know it was decreased, correct?
[link=(Overall spending on national security includes the Pentagon budget as well as spending by other agencies, such as the Energy Department’s work on nuclear weapons. Spending increased in 2010 and 2011, but it has fallen every year for four years since then by a cumulative 15 percent.)]LINK[/link]
So there are defense companies in EVERY district in EVERY state?Care to name this obviously HUGE company or companies?
