Suggests what I've pretty much believed about Americans. We don't hate immigrants or Muslims. Just adapt to our language and customs and you'll be fine.

Being born in the U.S. and Christianity are way down the charts on what makes someone an American.

I just get the email alerts, and don't have a subscription. Otherwise, I'd link the article.

Yep, it is really that simple.

This is pretty much me. I genuinely don't dislike anyone that comes here legally and chooses to assimilate into our culture.

Still kinda disturbingly high, but positive overall.

As to the others, I dont mind people keeping their culture to some extent and sharing it with us, I think thats awesome. I do NOT like pockets of one ethnicity in cities where they don't learn English or assimilate at all. Communication is the bedrock upon which societies and relationships are built. Not learning the language of a country you intend to live in is just kind of insulting to me. If I were moving to another country literally the first thing I would do is learn their language. I mean wtf.

We're on the same page. I once wrote a lengthy OP about this topic.

Shared language is probably the most powerful tool of unity, as you suggest. It can bring together peoples of all cultures, religions, and regions. The U.S. is a prime example of this.

Why some people (mostly progressives) scoff at the notion that foreigners learn English is baffling to me. They'd prefer we not be able to communicate with each other, I guess?
