despite being a model citizen.

You know , normally I would feel bad for these people whose families trump is ripping apart. I don't feel sorry for her one bit however.

I would tell her and all the other Trumpkins in this Trumpkin town who have rallied behind them and are upset Trump is deporting this beloved local businessman:

Whenever you vote for someone who is coming for the 'Others'....beware that you might be the other.

Also, She was fine with breaking up OTHER people's families - but now that it's happening to HER, she's appalled? Typical Republican - don't care about anything unless it affects them personally...which perfectly expresses their "I got mine, screw you", mentality.

quote:

An Indiana woman who voted for President Donald Trump last year is trying to stop Immigration and Customs Enforcement from deporting her husband.
Indiana Public Media reports that Roberto Beristain — a resident of Granger, Ind., and owner of the popular Eddie’s Steak Shed restaurant — is scheduled to be deported on Friday despite pleas from both his family and local government officials.

Beristain tells IPM that “he came to the United States from Mexico City illegally in 1998,” but “later obtained documentation to work in the country and checked in with ICE each year.”

Beristain was detained in February during one of his regular check-ins with ICE, despite the fact that the agency had known of his immigration status for more than a decade and, up until that point, had done nothing.

Beristain’s wife, Helen, says that she voted for Trump in November because she supported his policies on deporting undocumented immigrants. However, she tells IPM that she never expected her own husband to be caught up in a deportation wave.
““[Trump] did say the good people would not be deported, the good people would be checked,” she explained.

Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of nearby South Bend, Ind., has been working to stop Beristain’s deportation, as he says the restaurant owner has been a “model resident” during his time in Indiana

I don't even know why Pete Buttigieg is getting involved in this . The trump administration will just tell the cute gay Democrat to frick off.

If he's married to a citizen, why didn't he apply for citizenship?

Except he's not. I'm sure Mexico will be happy to have him back though

It doesn't work like that. You can't apply for a green card for spouses who entered illegally unless some fairly restrictive exceptions apply.

This guy's problems started during Clinton's presidency, when he was ordered to leave after illegally entering Canada in 2000.

Clinton did this to him.

If he has a work permit then this makes no sense.

I feel like crucial information is being withheld here

Having a work permit doesn't make you legal. Everyone who entered illegally as a minor and is now a Dreamer with work authorization (DACA) is still technically illegal and could be deported.

quote:

As the Tribune reported earlier this month, Beristain had received a voluntary deportation order from a federal immigration judge in New York in 2000

quote:

Ever since, he has checked in once a year with ICE officials and kept a clean criminal record. ICE agents allowed him to gain a work permit, driver's license and a legal Social Security number and card,

quote:

ICE detained him Feb. 6. It came shortly after President Donald Trump’s executive order that vastly broadened the priorities for whom ICE agents should deport — out of nearly 1 million immigrants who reportedly linger in the U.S. with a deportation order.

Just a few more facts.
