Great read on how differently China sees NK after the Syria cruise missles.

A 2014 study by the U.S. based Institute for Science and International Security estimated that North Korea could have enough nuclear material for as many as 79 nuclear weapons by 2020. That's three years away, folks.
As we noted before, China now has gotten the message: Trump isn't going to roll over like Obama did, and he means business. Xi learned this after being informed during a steak and seafood dinner that Trump had launched 59 Tomahawks at that chemical weapons base in Syria — without asking Russia's permission, and after giving it just a short warning to get its troops out of harm's way. That certainly explains China's sudden shift in tone toward North Korea to one of open hostility.
China now knows there's a president who not only understands U.S. interests in the region, but has explicitly told China that any trade deals between our two nations will depend on its cooperation in ending North Korea's nuclear threat.
Being nice and negotiating phony nuclear deals with North Korea hasn't worked. The "six-party talks" on North Korea's nukes that have been going on since 2003 haven't worked either. By restoring U.S. credibility, Trump has made China care about North Korea's nuclear threat in a way it never did before. It may be the best chance we have of avoiding a nuclear catastrophe from a nation ruled by a totalitarian sociopath.

he editorial went a step further, telling North Korea that it won't wait for the U.S. to do the dirty work, but "will launch attacks to (North Korea's) nuclear facilities on its own."

Xi realizes that while IL was batshit crazy, he knew NK didn't have the military might to tangle with China.
Un, on the other hand, is batshit crazy with the added delusion that the NK army is powerful enough to vanquish any force in the globe. He grew up among generals feeding him this bullshite.
A very important distinction.

Global politics is so interesting the way things connect and effect each other.

The US cannot solve this problem unilaterally, and yes dragging Japan and SOKO along is unilaterally. The Chinese created these little monsters after WW2 and are the really the only ones that can rectify the problem. Economically it makes sense for China to have a united and industrious Korea to further along the Asian Century.

All of this keeps being attributed to Trump. I think it's more a product of Trump allowing Mattis and McMaster to do their jobs, which is commendable on his part. I don't think Trump knows enough about foreign policy to try to make these decisions, and I don't want him to. Obama pretended like he did.

I think they realize that a crazy nuclear unstable neighbor might be an inadvertent threat to them, whether they like his diversionary tactics, or not...A nuclear explosion on their border, or that region will destroy lots more than anyone realizes, and China might be waking up. Now that Trump is pushing back, thing will get real, and China knows they will take the blame if shite goes down; and the fallout will affect them for many years, and could destroy trade and their economy.

Dude, lets wait and see, but this is a huge development that is not being reported anywhere right now. How legit is it?

Huge news, China is on board and you'll see it play out. Trump solving the worlds problems in 100 days.
Too much winning.

Likely a quid pro quo involved here. China wouldn't do anything out of the goodness of their hearts, if I were Taiwan I'd be watching my back.

Those who doubted Trump and Tillerson's ability in foreign affairs can EABOD.
That's ONE meeting and ONE cruse missile strike.

Might be even better for them to have a puppet regime in NK that follows their domestic governance model. That would mean improved productivity, no international relations headaches, and a check on US influence in the region.
With Fatboy killing off his relatives the Chicoms could engineer a coup and install a junta that transitions NK's system to a politically repressive but more market oriented government.

quote:How many people is Fatboy killing off internally as we write this? You know he's feeling the squeeze and I bet he doesn't trust anyone. Who's safe from him right now? Surely there is a web of deceit being cast at the direction of the Chinese to remove him before he does something that causes a major catastrophe.

If he takes that route, his fears might become a self fulfilling prophecy. He whacks enough innocent members of his inner circle and eventually one of those guys will beat him to the punch.
I wonder what his security protocol is. Somebody has to have access to him when he's asleep, or in the shower, or in his office.

If by "suddenly concerned" they mean China was giving their marching orders by Trump, then I agree
