The viewership spike for cable news shows no signs of slowing down. Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC all saw double-digit ratings growth across the board for the second quarter of 2017, according to Nielsen data.

Driven by surges for “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell,” MSNBC is up a whopping 86% in total viewers in primetime compared to second-quarter 2016. CNN saw a 39% leap in adults 25-54 in total day. Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow” split the crown for most-watched cable news program in primetime, with Carlson winning in total viewers and Maddow taking the demo.

In total day, Fox News led with 1.47 million total viewers, up 27% from the same period last year. Of those, 314,000 fell in the adults 25-54 demographic, up 46% from last year. MSNBC was second in total viewers with 886,000, up 73%. MSNBC was third in total day in the demo, however, with 206,000 for an increase of 57%. CNN was third in total viewers with 788,000 for an increase of 25%, but second in the demo with 262,000 (up 39%).

Attacking the media is only making them stronger, as noted by your graph and their record profits.

The Russia story is a smoke screen for the real collusion between trump and the media gaints. They never thought he'd win but it's too late to go back

Trump is playing 4D chess for the establishment. How this isn't obvious, someone is going to have to explain to me.

Its funny because all these "news" outlets balked last year when Trump said they should all be thanking him for their ratings during the campaign.

Question: If Trump is working for/with the media - is the media working for/with Putin as well?

Kinda like the establishment media constantly attacking Trump during the campaign to build his brand stronger.

They overplayed their hand and still fooled the sheople.

Just to be serious and fair:

This is post hoc, ergo propter hoc type stuff.

Eh, while they may currently be gaining in short-term traffic and revenue, they are losing in long-term credibility. People love train wrecks, this isn't a new phenomenon.

However, the curtain is being pulled back on what the media corporations truly are and how they operate and the toothpaste isn't going back into the tube any time soon.

so hear me out

Trump and Hillary were in collusion during the election. Trump wasn't supposed to win, he was going to lose then start his Trump TV channel.

But Trump inexplicably won, so what does Trump do? He helps build the MSM back up to record viewing during the tenure, and in 4 years, he will then start his Trump TV channel and take over the MSM now that he spent 4 years making MSM relevant again.

Yeah, and Budweiser doesn't spend millions of dollars in advertising to get you to buy their product.

What makes more sense to you: Trump inexplicably won, or Trump won because he was supposed to win?

I am amused at this board's Cirque du Soleil style mental gymnastics in trying to explain away something that was supposed to happen.

It happened because it was supposed to happen. It didn't happen because it wasn't supposed to happen.

They ensured he won the GOP
from the LA times on SEPT. 22, 2016 the Billy Bush tapes were released two weeks later.

quote:

It’s not out of the ordinary for Americans to believe the news media treats Democratic presidential candidates too easily.

That’s what 33% say about the news media's handling of Hillary Clinton now, and what 31% said about coverage of Barack Obama in 2008, according to the nonpartisan Pew Research Center.

However, Donald Trump is generating unusual responses for a Republican presidential candidate.

The survey of 1,000 adults conducted this month found 27% said the media had gone soft on Trump, much higher than the 20% who said the same about coverage of Mitt Romney in 2012 or the 15% who said as much about the media's treatment of John McCain in 2008.

The change in perception is driven by Democrats. This year, 43% say the media are being too easy on Trump, twice the proportion that said the same about coverage of McCain.

Believe me, NOBODY would be happier to see the establishment take it in the nuts than I. Unfortunately, it isn't happening.

I've seen this same scenario played out over and over again. Hell, look at how the media built up Obama like the Second Coming. They did the exact same thing with Trump, only used a different tactic, opposite of what it did with Obama.

The media exists for one reason and one reason only - to fool the sheople and herd them into willfully implementing the establishment agenda.

That's what they do. That's what they've ALWAYS done.

I can't figure out why anyone would think things have suddenly changed.
