I Hate to Admit This....

I really can't muster much emotion over the Confederate statues coming down. I guess because I was in my 20's before I ever saw one with my own eyes. By that time I'd already become a fan of both Lee and Jackson for their military prowess. I had already read books on the Civil War, taken college history classes that discussed the war. A Confederate statue never shaped my view of the Old South, never made me research my ancestry only to discover my family fought for the South during the war. No statue created this deep sense of loss I feel each time I watch Gettysburg or the love I have for my Father's Lee and Jackson prints.
And just like me, no statue will shape how my children view the Confederacy....positive or negative.
