Try to be 21 again while you are at it.

Then tell us all how to do that.

There is no maximum age for a student.

You can cover the whole family for $6,500.

LINKy thing

Wrong. You need to add for the spouse, plus add the cost of tuition.

Is admission free, or we only counting convenient costs?

I pay $7,900 for me, spouse, all my kids with the same deductible and very similar coverage % AND that includes my dental & vision. Mine is $6,865 without the dental & vision.

Maybe you just need to find a different job?

That actually seems crazy to me considering what I pay at a company with a good number of old timers and most of the people are 30-50 years old. While that coverage is for mostly young healthy people that are 18-23 years old....

However, 90+% of students are 25 or younger, so a very low risk pool. guess the only high risk component would be treatment of STDs.....

if you were self-employed you would understand that your cost is greater but is hidden in your 'employer's share'

why do you hate the self employed?

Yeah that is lost on a lot of people. Employers pay up to 75% sometimes.

I'm very well aware, however I do not believe that the students at LSU are being offered self-employed insurance which is what you were talking about.

I don't hate self-employed people as a blanket statement (would drug dealers be deemed "self-employed"). Matter of fact I don't hate almost anyone, as long as someone is a productive member of society and not a total douche-nozzle , I normally get along great with them.

You started this thread to talk about how "I found reasonably priced health insurance" and how "I just need to go back to school". I was letting you know there are other options out there that don't involve going back to school and paying $12,534 to become a full-time student.

Now, I do realize that you were just making a joke about the school's health care plan being a pretty decent one. I was just trying to point out that I work for a company with a much higher risk group of people (than college aged "young adults"), with way less than the 31,500 enrollees, and my insurance is very comparable.

Sidenote: before you retort about the number of people, I do realize that a large number are probably still on their parents plans, have military benefits, or just flat out don't have insurance. I also note that there is 6,500 staff members that are on a different plan, but most likely still through the same carrier and therefore get that benefit for pricing. The company I work for is less than half the staff number (for plan size comparison purposes).

I believe mine pays around 60% (I'm really not sure) and they have a very large deductible that they pay in order to keep it down for the rest of us.

yes, my bad

but still, under Obamacare it's not uncommon to be $20,000 out of pocket before insurance kicks in

so, $8,500 premium +
$5,000 tuition and those tiny deductibles is still a deal
