I expect ratings for all news sources to drop

The reason is simple. There are virtually none that are actual news. Basically every source of information out there right now short of simply looking at the data yourself amounts to little more then tuning in to hear your opinion spoken by somebody else.
Everyone has moved to their corners and at this point the only actual purpose served by the so-called new sources is four people in each corner to publish their headlines and say see I told you so
I actually wouldn't even consider that a bad thing normally. I haven't regularly watch news for 30 years because I got tired of how shallow any and all stories were covered in the typical 2 to 5 minutes Snippets
It used to be that there were several print sources where you could get more in depth but even that has pretty much dried up.
Now if you really want to look into a subject you basically have to find out the sources of data and go look yourself. There are just really aren't very many legitimate sources Beyond that
So like I said it doesn't surprise me that fewer people watch the news. It might be fun to hear your own opinion spoken back at you a few times. But at some point you realize you have better things to do and that it's not very interesting

I think you underestimate how little people actually care about facts
The average doesn't go looking for information, they look for confirmation

I get all my news from this board

I'm simply observing that hearing your own Viewpoint spoken back at you isn't really that interesting after a certain point.
I think to a degree that's already happening. The only time people actually want to tune in is during some controversial moment so they can revalidate their own opinions
But other than those times it's probably just more interesting to watch the Food Network

Honestly I'm watching and reading far less "news" in the last month or so. It's become so uninformative, boring, and predictable. And I don't care what some music sports or acting "star" thinks, says, or does, but that was about 45% of the content last I checked.
I'm not big on confirmation bias, and have always watched/read sources from both sides to try and understand the entire issue (even though most left/Democrat/liberal/progressive/commie thought process is just bizarre and intellectually dishonest). But it all just sucks now and is such a waste.
The constant 24 hour news machine was the second worst thing to happen to the news, after the overt politicization of those who produce and "create" it.

Exactly. I'm a big newshound but over the last month or so I've found myself watching and listening to tv "news" less and less. It has become tv opinionating by all tv media. I watch the news to learn facts, good or bad, not to just be bombarded by opinions.

This is the danger to constructing a news model that is designed primarily as fan support.
Sure, initially, people will seek you out to avoid having to hear shite they don't like.
But, eventually, they'll realize.........."I already know what I think.......".
It's like watching an LSU Football game that's already been played. Sure, it's kinda fun to relive it if it was a great one the first few times.
But, your desire to rewatch it has further and further gaps between incidences.
That's what watching you own opinion spoken back at you does. Eventually, there's just other shite you can be doing that you enjoy more.

Fox ratings went down. MSNBC went up. Fox is still the #1 news network but the gap has closed.
Basically, Fox is a complete shitshow right now. Part of their problem is that conservatives are the ones who stopped believing the news. Liberals, meanwhile, have doubled down on the "journalistic verification" model of truth, and therefore the ratings for liberal outlets are up (NY Times, too).
Ironically, liberal media have received a major "Trump Bump."

Doctors offices and elderly residents make up the majority of ratings they get now. Take those two away and I'd be interested to see what they get.
