After months and multiple statements issued by The Rolling Stones expressing displeasure at the use of their music at Donald Trump rallies, the rock n’ roll band’s frontman Mick Jagger finally commented on why the band and its team couldn’t prevent the use of their songs on Trump’s campaign playlist.

“So Patty, asked me about Donald Trump using Stones music, and we [previously] said, like, ‘Don't use our music,’” Jagger said on a Rolling Stones Twitter Q&A on Wednesday afternoon. “So, the thing is, when you appear in America...if you're in a public place like Madison Square Garden or a theater, you can play any music you want, and you can't be stopped. So, if you write a song and someone plays it in a restaurant that you go to, you can't stop them. They can play what they want.”

The Trump campaign has long played Rolling Stones songs at its campaign stops, with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” becoming Trump’s de facto campaign song. (The song played directly following Trump’s speech accepting the Republican nomination at the GOP convention in Cleveland, and it has been reported that Trump personally picks the music on the playlist.)

In February, Rolling Stones spokeswoman Fran Curtis told The Daily Beast that “the band was not asked for permission to use the songs.” In May, the band again asked Team Trump to knock it off, once again to no avail. But, as The Rolling Stones now publicly admit, there is very little they can do if Trump wants to continue to make their work part of his presidential campaign.

I would hate the free advertisement too.

I'm literally shaking after reading Jagger's comments. Poor guy. Hope he makes it.

Yes. And you should support them in this effort.

Just like the gal in the OPs avatar. You should support her as well as support pedophiles since she does too.

What do you mean "gets away with"? Its not illegal. Such odd wording. Would you say "hey how does that guy get away with taking those groceries home after paying for them?"

President Trump isn't getting away anything...pay BMI/ASCAP their royalties and no one can do a damn thing about it. Mick can cry all night long.

It is really simple.

He paid for it. He also has to pay the performance royalties. They can not refuse his right to play it.

It is something Republican should have been doing over the last 20 years. Play whatever they want and stop letting the libtards get their way.

Not sure about Trumps situation, but a restaurant, or other venue can play any music they want, but if it is used in a for profit business entity they must pay royalties. They will usually pay a license fee to use music from ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC or other music licensing group. Pandora and Sirus/XM have business license agreement for a fee. These organization will show up at your business get the money or sue if you are playing music without the proper license.

The choice of songs is pretty ironic considering the hand wringing about it being played against the original composer's will.....

Why would Mick or Keith give a rats arse about Trump using their music? If you want to talk about boorish, womanizing misogynistic and slightly racist....that was/is Mick and the Boys. They really cannot criticize Trump unless its to call Trump an amateur on the shameless front. Hmmmm let's see using Hell's Angels as your bodyguards....urinating in an airport and claiming you were just expressing yourself. Renting out houses in the south of France for week long orgies and month long drug binges....
