How should a president resond to verbal attacks?

By the media, Hollywierd, or other politicians?
Should they just sit back and take it? I remember Obama specifically calling out individuals of the media and Fox News.
Like I said in another thread. There's two ways to handle verbal or written attacks.
One is to ignore it. Some see that as the dignified way to do it. Others see it as an omission of guilt by not responding to the accusations.
The other is to respond. Some see it as childish and petty. Others see it as defending your honor.
So which is the right way?
Obama has definitely attacked his accusers, so don't act like Trump is the first to do it.

The POTUS doesn't really need to respond to petty verbal attacks.
And if he does respond, it shouldn't be with an attack back towards the accuser.

I think that Trump should continue to use Twitter and say what comes off the top of his head and forget about optics.

I also heard that Salmon got arrested yesterday for fricking his son. How did he get out of jail so soon?

The best way is for the President to "remain above the fray" and not attack people too much but instead have your people do the attacking for you.
That way you personally can stay presidential while also getting the message across. Always have that buffer.

The problem with Trump responding the way he does is the same problem with Obama, it further drives division between the "sides"

Ignore. Even addressing them gives them legitimacy

Like Prime Time said, should he let his surrogates respond?
