is it completely out the question that NK has a nuke just sitting in the living room of some Manhattan apartment they bought?

I don't even think a struggling screenwriter could get away with the crap you just came up with.

I definitely see a suitcase nuke detonation in a major American city within the next decade. It will be a game changer.

The dems would probably let it through the border if the illegals escorting it pledged to vote for them.

Answer one question for me?, no two?

How big do you think NK's nukes are?

And

How big is this NY apt?

Well considering NK's nukes would be lucky to fit in a cargo trailer, I doubt one is in an apt in NYC

You'd basically have to get an already assembled device either across the ocean undetected or across the border undetected.

The key part to stopping this type of attack is monitoring nuclear material sources and keeping tabs on where all of it is and who has it. The CIA and many other intelligence agencies do a very good job at this.

Enriching nuclear material is very hard to do. It takes substantial capital and resources. Those who undertake that task are undoubtedly being watched and any movement they make will be monitored.

So if you can avoid detection while the device is being created and ship it without being caught, sure. You just have to have a shite load of money laying around and a lot of smart people to help you do it.

I think it would be much easier than what is believed. We do a lot of oil and gas procurement work and the paperwork is created by us with only the looming option of scanning it by the airlines and/or freight carrier. Short of sniffer dogs, I think one could potential be successful in doing so. I'm sure they've had some trial runs by some rouge tPOS terrorist org.

Look how easy it is to smuggle drugs - tunnels, false cavities in cars and trucks, people walking the shitte across the border etc. wouldn't take much more for a suitcase nuke. Plus Los Zetas were apparently trying to buy one last year. Scary.

The problem for this is that the people who have nukes don't get them quietly. Nuclear material is closely monitored and it doesn't get tossed around like drugs does. Harvesting the material, enriching it, assembling it, and transporting it is no easy task. It's nearly impossible to stay hidden while doing it.

Given a North Korean Nuke is roughly the size of a panel van...

All of that. Plus, the blast yield of a true suitcase sized nuke wouldn't be that much. Sure, people would die, but we're not talking the apocalypse here.

I think the possiblity of a dirty bomb are much greater. Seems to be an easier path for a rogue state. The use of two or three of these simultaneously in major US cities would be catastrophic. Maybe not so much in loss of human life but economically and psychologically it would be devestating. Imagine shutting down and evacuating mass sections of a city for cleanup. Could render those areas useless. Let's hope this never occurs.

It's not as if they don't have a submarine and three or four guys in neoprene to walk in with enough for a dirty bomb. It wouldn't be flashy and make a big boom, but they could create quite the stir. If they just left a pile in a van on Pennsylvania Avenue, it would get more than casual notice.

They are supposedly not as flashy to terrorist, because nothing gets blown up. And the effects not as long lasting as you might imagine or near as widespread as a small nuclear explosion. Just read up on some thoughts about their use since this thread.
