Elections are governed and conducted by states including federal elections.

This is what the current state of the voter ID laws looks like around the country by state according to Wiki:

What would it take to require a voter ID in all federal elections? A constitutional amendment or simple federal regulations?

It seems the constitution would have to be amended in order to enforce voter ID for federal elections in all states.

If that's really what you want...most states are defending the sanctity of the vote well...
Others (Cali) are not

Yeah, it would seem that one person one vote would be an ideal goal.

During the Congressional voting here in Atlanta I had seen a Facebook post from one of my friends where she thought she was allowed to vote (she wanted Ossoff) even though she didn't live in the 6th. She also said there was another woman there who didnt understand why she couldn't vote either (she didnt live in the district). While this is more an instance of ignorance, it shows how easily a strong push for people to go vote WILL get people to do the wrong thing. Ga strict ID laws stopped the ignorant from clogging up voting booths and making sure none of their votes could have impacted anything.

I would look into what countries like India and Mexico did to enact theirs...

Tennessee does it right. You register online (takes 2 minutes) and then you bring an ID when you show up to vote. They check it against your registration and you're good to go. You can't just show up from Honduras with your dick in one hand and an anchor baby in the other and vote for president.

Yeah, I agree with this.

I lived in Ga for 6 years. I moved their from La. La has voter ID laws too and I thought it was a norm to show your ID to vote. I was kind of shocked to learn that many states don't have voter ID. I guess they don't care about voter integrity.

In Louisiana it seems voter ID is strict in conservative parishes (counties) and pretty lax in Democrat parishes.

I just find it funny that the SouthEast basically has the most id laws than any other region.

There's absolutely no reason that anyone should object to this.

Hopefully she got ripped to shreds with that post.

The feds could issue identification to everyone, everywhere, and then require that you have a valid federal id. I think this was proposed a few years ago and the Republicans went nuts over the idea of having a federal id. They are still bitching about the real id federal standard.

They want to require identification but not issue the identification they want to require.

Really? I don't remember this.

I bet if a federal voting ID card gets proposed most people on the right would be accepting of it.

What is a "federal election?" If you're thinking of presidential elections, then you need to remember that we don't vote for a president, we vote for an electorate who casts a vote for us. Are you opposed to the electoral college?

He's right. It was a requirement included in HillaryCare back in '93 that everyone be issued a federal ID. GOP hated the idea, dimocratixes all thought it made perfect sense. Now the parties' stances are reversed.

I honestly don't know how an ID isn't required to vote...it's pure insanity to let people vote unchecked, and only invites fraud.

i am all for Voter ID laws. I think everyone should have a valid for of a state ID or DL to vote in an election. If the Democrats worry about access to these types of ID's then they need to make sure their Voter base gets to the DMV and get the type of accepted ID required to vote. this ends all the bullshite the that republicans are saying about massive voter fraud.

Well, the big issue is this:

Your photo ID is provided by your state, not the federal government.

So, it is not the place for the federal government to dictate to states how they should run their elections. Remember, only the POTUS and VPOTUS are federal representation that is elected. Even Senators are specific to the state, and Representatives to the district. They may congregate in DC, but they are elected by states.

The Fed would either need to issue their own photo IDs (like making passports mandatory) or encourage states to change their laws.

I'm okay with voter ID laws; I'm not okay with the Fed taking away yet more states rights to implement them.
