The men who criticized Kerry were willing to go on the record with their criticisms. Some of their criticisms were based on eyewitness accounts, and those were valid. They were sufficient to call Kerry's character into question. That being said, the criticisms went way past the eyewitness accounts into the realm of impugning Kerry's character based on the weakest of circumstantial evidence.

I would have no problem with the campaign to oppose Kerry if it was limited to that. The moment it became a campaign to support another candidate is when I had problems with it. But in politics it is impossible to eliminate conditions in which the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
