The House officially opened debate Friday on Speaker Mike Johnson’s multi-part foreign aid plan after Democrats stepped in to help overcome conservative defections.

The House voted 316-94 to bring up the four-bill package, which includes aid for Ukraine, Taiwan and Israel, as well as GOP policy sweeteners. But underscoring deep intraparty frustrations with Johnson’s strategy, 55 Republicans voted against advancing the package — a once unheard-of GOP rebellion that has grown more common given their single-digit margin.

Normally that would be enough to scuttle Johnson’s plan, but 165 Democrats voted to bring up the bills. It’s the first time they’ve done so during Johnson’s speakership — an alliance that is likely to fuel calls from his most vocal critics to strip him of his gavel.

If the media actually reported the numbers well, it’s basically split decision by both parties. Neither party voted solely for or against the bill, though slightly more Dems voted for the bill

This is what happens when you turn the party over to clowns like MTG and Gaetz and Trump.

Their efforts to dump McCarthy is resulting in a bipartisan foreign aid package now.

Name the Republicans that are not "establishment" - there might be five that the average PT poster would recognize the name of:

Massie
Biggs
Paul
Crane
Hawley
Maybe Lee?

Who am I missing?

Yep. Instead of spending the time to bring people over to his side, Trump and his minions have done nothing but divide the party by threatening and denigrating anyone in the GOP that doesn't kiss the ring.

Normally this would apply to Trump; however, I don't think this applies to the Speaker issue. Trump has attempted to rally people to support McCarthy and now Johnson - he's just permanently stupid when it comes to personnel. Virtually everyone he's supported / endorsed / hired, for 8 years now, has been a disaster.

You say this when the lack of conservatism from Johnson is what you are angry about.

Just get it over with, tell everyone you are in love with Trump and hate any and everything that may be opposite to him. That includes conservatism.

I'm talking about the members of congress that he has pushed away since 2016.

He works better with the democrats than the republicans and that isn't even debatable.

If Trump is elected in Nov I expect Johnson to be another Paul Ryan sellout and fight Trump tooth and nail at everything. He has to go eventually.

Caught up in all this bullshite about:

Right vs Wrong
Dem vs Rep.
White vs Black
Liberal vs MAGA.

Read this sentence and reflect.

quote:

bring up the four-bill package, which includes aid for Ukraine, Taiwan and Israel

I'm sorry but frick Foreign Aid, when my tax bill is through the roof because I work my arse off, I don't get a cozy feeling seeing politicians fight over who to give fricking money to.

Tommy Tuberville and JD Vance have been pretty solid in the senate.
