House GOP selects Jordan as speaker candidate

Not much of a surprise—Jordan was the expected frontrunner in the race—but he’s the candidate after today’s closed door meeting.

And I got downvoted in another thread just for saying Scalise stepping away from this would put Jordan as the likely winner.

How so? I see it as literally no change. It’s also no change from McCarthy.
Nothing substantive changes. The House still cannot do anything by itself.
Any downvoters care to explain what changes here? Are you guys that concerned with floor votes that won’t even get taken up by the Senate?

Unfortunately he is not going to get 217. 81 votes for a last minute uniparty candidate simply to stop Jordan from getting the speakership.

Anyone know about Scott? Was he more of an establishment type than Jordan?
I like Jordan a LOT more than McCarthy, but he's all aboard the money train to Israel. Unfortunate, but no one that had a chance of becoming speaker was going support staying out of that shitshow.

I expect the RINOs to block him on the first ballot (as a statement vote) because they are baby-back bitches.

This will never see a vote. There are already enough public no votes to end it before it begins. He'll spend a week trying to drum up support then withdraw rather than lose in a public vote.

Never going to happen. There are lots of reports that he and his supporters have turned people off during this process. He will not get the votes. Ever.

Jordan is the best choice. He is not perfect by any means. But I think he will be open to pushing a more conservative agenda.

Jim Jordan has a lot more strongly worded letters to give than Steve Scalise. They both have about the same number of Lucy footballs.
