When David Hogg organized a die-in at a Publix supermarket over their donations to an NRA-supported candidate, he caused them to cancel all political donations — including to organizations that fund Planned Parenthood.

Publix was contributing to the YMCA, who is a member of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, the YWCA who supports LGBT causes, United Way chapters that have funded Planned Parenthood, as well as March of Dimes and Susan G. Koman — both of which continue to fund the controversial clinics.

So do the people that are boycotting Publix get to shop there again?

I'd love to see a breakdown of their donations

How much went to conservative causes and how much to liberal causes

Would be interesting

I had the same thought. I'm interested to see if any (or how many) other companies follow suit and say "we just want to sell stuff."

And in addition to that, they will lose a ton of business due to the backlash from caving

I have no problem with Publix pulling political funding. You are a damn grocery store. Sell groceries and stay out of politics.

Or like I said, just contribute to the most politically neutral causes possible if you're feeling generous.

No one is going to ride your arse for donating to St. Jude

You’d be surprised. People at work were complaining about our donation to the Salvation Army.

Exactly.

That's why when Toddy celebrated Hogg's great ""success"" the other day, I asked "Are you sure?"

There was no way in hell Publix was a one-trick-pony in political contributions. Nor was it likely in the least Publix would lean right in such affairs.

Are you claiming his call for a "die in" is not newsworthy?

I don't understand your motivation for being a hack over this?

NRA will do fine. If it took stopping funding to it to stop them for the liberal Publix was funding, it was a gain for the United States.

Publix sucks. I don't know why people like it. Way, way, way overpriced. I wish Safeway was in more locations.
