I feel like this entire chloroquine subplot as it's played out over the past 3 weeks is a microcosm of the right / Populism movement versus the left / intellectual Globalism movement.

I just tried explaining my thoughts to a friend who is moderate/progressive and it didn't go well. I can tell that he thought I was being a conspiracy theorist. The link I pulled up about the Michigan Governor restricting the application was (of course) only covered by the Washington Examiner and it was actually implying that the MI governor did it to restrict the treatment for people who might really need it.

Is there a video or an article that explains how the right / Trump recommended this, was mocked by the intellectual left / Scientists / MSM (fish tank story) etc?

TL;DR - the right and populists need to do a better job of recapping these timelines and incidents that support our overall claim that the left is trying to change our values and our way of life.

You are in a no win situation.

The MSM basically ignores any story that shades the left. Your friend won't trust the sources that do cover them.

Your post already alluded to this.

Gov. Abbott issued an order down here in TX restricting it.

Basically, you could get it if 1) you were already taking it for another condition or 2) you have been tested positive.

I have been aboard this train since before it got to the United States.

I heard that it was being used in China shortly before they got control of things.

Do you mean chloroquine? It's used as an antimalarial in endemic areas where the patient is still susceptible to it.

It was found that people taking it for saw improvement in some auto immune issues and that is where we got it's sister drug, hcq.

These drugs have long been used for these issues.

Lupus patients and RA patients are having trouble getting it for obvious reasons.

Michigan’s doctors fight coronavirus, and governor's office | Detroitnews

Kathy Hoekstra | The Detroit News

Updated 7:55 a.m. IST Mar. 27, 2020

[..]

But if you live in Michigan, and you or a loved one is infected with this potentially lethal disease, you’re out of luck.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs literally threatened all doctors and pharmacists in the state who prescribe or dispense hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19. The agency’s March 24 letter warns physicians and pharmacists of professional consequences for the prescribing of hydroxychloroquine (and chloroquine). Beyond the rational recommendation against hoarding as production of this medication needs to be ramped up, the letter deviates into open threats of “administrative action” against the licenses of doctors that prescribe hydroxychloroquine. The letter also instructs pharmacists to ignore physician orders for this medication. Due to the debate over a pharmacist’s right to refuse to fill medications that go against their religious beliefs, this could place pharmacists in the unprecedented position of being told that they must fill prescriptions that violate their “ conscience (religious belief)” but must not fill prescriptions to treat COVID-19.

Even worse, the letter indicates health care providers are “required to report” their fellow physicians who are prescribing these medications. This draconian measure carries ominous Gestapo-like overtones of neighbor reporting neighbor to “authorities.”

During a time of crisis, in which physicians continue to see patients despite not having enough protective gear, this threatening, authoritarian stance from our governor is counterproductive at best. What makes this directive more of a head-scratcher is that the same day the state issued its threatening nastygram to Michigan’s health care providers, Whitmer’s counterpart in New York started clinical trials of the very same drugs.

With his state now the nation’s pandemic epicenter, and with the blessing and help of the president and FDA, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo brought in 70,000 doses of hydroxychloroquine, 10,000 doses of Zithromax and 750,000 doses of chloroquine.

Logic would say that #2 is to prevent hoarding/price gouging.

Aren't NV and MI banning it because they claim it doesn't work?
